The SENG 380 Labs - What are we going to do?
• The basic usage of MS project 2003.
• Three project labs – Feb.23th : A Tutorial & design of a project plan; – Mar. 8th : To allocate resources; – Mar. 26th : To generate a project report.
• Three lab reports – 10% in total

Some rules for the lab
• For each lab, there’re going to be two parts – PART I: I will give an example about what we need to
do, and then allocate the assignment; – PART II: You’re expected to complete the assignment
independently and feel free to ask me questions.
• To be in the lab on time (a name list to sign) • To hand in reports in time
– Printed lab report; – Usually in one week after the lab

Introduction of Microsoft Office Project 2003 • What is Microsoft Project? • MS Project is a tool to help you to plan projects, manage and update
project information, and communicate the status once the project is under way.
• The system will then display the data in such a way that the relationships of the tasks and their time scales can clearly be seen and potential problem areas identified.
• Project data can be entered and/or viewed in a number of ways.

Tasks • Basic Profile:
– ID, Name, Duration, Start, Finish, Predecessor • Types of Tasks
– Summary tasks: contain subtasks and their related properties; – Subtasks: are smaller tasks that are a part of a summary task; – Recurring tasks: are tasks that occur at regular intervals; – Milestones: are tasks that are set to zero duration and are like
