INTRODUCTIONNHPC Limited is an Electric Utilities Company; a Mini Ratna Category-I Enterprise of Government of India that was incorporated in 1975 with an authorised capital of Rs.2,000 Million and share capital of Rs.150, 000 Million for development of Hydro-Electric power in all aspects. NHPC delivers a total of 6507 MW of power by its present running plants. It promises to deliver total of 4502 MW of power by its power plants under construction among which Teesta Low Dam-III Power Station, West Bengal.

Introduction to TLD-III

Components of a hydro-electric power plant Barrage Head Race Channel PenstockUnderground and Surface Power House Tail Race Channel

In hydroelectric power plants the potential energy of water stored at a height is converted into electrical energy.

The total power generation capacity of the hydroelectric power plants depends on the head of water and volume of water flowing towards the water turbine.

TOTAL POWER THAT CAN BE GENERATED IS:- P= (0.736*W*H*Q*/75) KW

SECONDARY COOLING WATERSYSTEM

Located at an elevation of 180.25 M.It is a closed circulating system. Each unit has an operating 3-ph induction motor and a standby 3-ph induction motor for the pump unit. In total there are four operating motors and four standbys for the four pump units. IMAGE

10I will not discuss large generators or medium sized machine larger than 3 MW

TURBINE FLOORThis floor is located at an elevation of 184.5 m.The turbine employed at TLDP III is Kaplan Turbine (VERTICAL CONFIGURATION).Rated output of each turbine is 34MW. Type of sealing: - Shaft seal Maintenance seal

MACHINE HALLThe elevation of machine hall is 190.5m. The Machine Hall has following installations: - 1. OPU (Oil Pressure Unit) 2. EXCITATION CONTROL BOARD. 3. OPU CONTROL BOARD. 4. UNIT CONTROL BOARD.

CONTROL ROOMThe elevation of CONTROL ROOM is 190.5m.The whole plant is controlled through SCADA (SUPERVISORY CONTROL AND DATA ACQUISITION). CONTROL ROOM HAS TWO MORE ROOM, THEY ARE: - 1. BATTERY ROOM 2. LTAC ROOM

OTHER IMPORTANT INSTALLATIONS IN TLDP-III 1. HP & LP COMPRESSOR: -ROLE OF HP COMPRESSOR: -It generates a pressure of 68 bar. provides air pressure to oil pressure unit (OPU)air is provided to LP compressor from HP compressor.ROLE OF LP COMPRESSOR: -It generates a pressure of 7.8 bar.provides pressure to the maintenance seal.Use for braking purpose.

2. TRANSFORMERSIn TLDP-III, there are six transformers used for each individual unit. They are as follows: - 1. Generator transformer (GT). 2. Service station transformer (SST). 3. Unit auxiliary transformer (UAT). 4. Excitation transformer (ET). 5. Lighting arrester voltage transformer (LAVT). 6. Neutral grounding cubicle (NGC).

3. GAS INSULATED SWITCHGEARused to control, protect and isolate electrical equipment.switchgear is the combination of electrical switches, isolators & circuit breakers.sulphur hexafluoride gas act as the insulating medium.

CONCLUSIONI would like to say that this training is an excellent opportunity for me. The main objectives of this industrial training are to observe and practice how the basic machine knowledge and engineering is applicable in the real industries. It is not only to get technical experience but also to observe management practice and how to interact with fellow workers.
