SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER (YEAR C) 28th April, 2019 We support the endeavours of the Royal Commission to bring healing to the victims of abuse. Church's website: www.facingthetruth.org.au Reflection: The story of Doubting Thomas is a familiar one, and we often think of him unkindly for doubting in the Resurrection. But in reality, despite the number of times Jesus had told his disciples he would die and rise again, Thomas was not alone in his doubt. When Mary Magdalene reported the empty tomb to the Disciples, Peter and John sprinted there to see for themselves. And Mary, mistaking the risen Jesus for a gardener lamented that "they" had taken him away. The disciples on the way to Emmaus were downcast, and it was not until Jesus revealed himself that they truly believed. Like Thomas, they all needed to see before believing Jesus had risen. So, why is poor Thomas singled out for his doubt? Perhaps it is because telling the story in this way allows John to relate Jesus’ profound words "Blessed are they who have not seen, and yet believe". And that tells us why we, who have not seen, do believe. We believe because it is a gift from God, and thus we are blessed. Mario Mirabile—Pastoral Leadership Team My friends - we have now completed our wonderful Easter experience together. I hope you had wonderful Easter celebrations with your family and friends! It was my first time to celebrate Easter with you and I had a lot to learn and I must say I have loved sharing these celebrations with you all. We know well these Holy Days take weeks and months of planning and preparation. My sincere thanks to all of YOU, who have so faithfully made the effort to attend. Our COMMUNITY is what it’s all about. Also, sincere thanks to the dozens and dozens of volunteers who wrote their names on our famous “Sign Up” sheets, offering their time, skills and energy in contributing to the richness of the Liturgy, and all the unseen jobs that needed to be done. Each time I came to the Church, I was amazed at each magnificent environment, created by the colours and symbols for each Celebration - so many hours in the background by the Environment Team, Thanks to you all. Where would we be without our Choirs and musicians? We are lucky to have such talent and dedication. Thanks also to all the choir groups for singing at St. Catherine’s this year, Thank you. We are so lucky to have such beautiful decorated Paschal Candles, heaps of thanks. Tying all this together, planning Liturgies, compiling Running sheets, and a thousand other tasks are our hard working P.A. Team, RCIA Leaders, Secretaries and House Staff, and I want to acknowledge the selfless and superb input of all. Great work. Congratulations and welcome to Nadiya, David and Tao into our community through RCIA Let’s move on with renewed energy and inspiration on our journey together. With sincere gratitude and Easter blessings to all. Jacob

My friends - we have now completed our wonderful Easter experience together.
Jacob

THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL – John 20: 19-31
First Anniversary occurring at this time:
In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, ‘Peace be with you,’ and showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord, and he said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. ‘As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.’ After saying this he breathed on them and said: ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained.’ Thomas, called the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. When the disciples said, ‘We have seen the Lord’, he answered, ‘Unless I see the holes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the holes they made, and unless I can put my hand into his side, I refuse to believe.’ Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors were closed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. ‘Peace be with you’ he said. Then he spoke to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put it into my side. Doubt no longer but believe.’ Thomas replied, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him: ‘You believe because you can see me. Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.’ There were many other signs that Jesus worked and the disciples saw, but they are not recorded in this book. These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing this you may have life through his name.
