Seattle Mariners minor league OF Tyler O’Neill (Canada) and RHP Dylan Unsworth (South Africa) have been selected to represent the World team in the 18th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game to be played on Sunday, July 10th at Petco Park in San Diego, as part of All-Star weekend.
The Mariners have had 37 selections (including O’Neill and Unsworth) to the Futures Game since its first began in 1999. Eight players on the current 25-man roster (+DL) played in the Futures Game in the past: Robinson Canó (2003-04), Nelson Cruz (2005), Edwin Diaz (2015), Felix Hernandez (2004), Chris Iannetta (2005), Ketel Marte (2015), James Paxton (2011) and Taijuan Walker (2012-13). Canó (All-Star: 2006, 2010-14, Futures Game: 2003 & 2004), Cruz (All-Star: 2009, 2013-14, Futures Game: 2005) and Hernandez (All-Star: 2009, 2011-14; Futures Game: 2004) have competed in both the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE
The 25th Arizona Fall League run from Tuesday, October 11 through Saturday, November 19. Regarded throughout professional baseball as the “finishing school” for top prospects since its inception in 1992, the six-team league features elite young players from every organization in Major League Baseball. The league plays three games per day six days a week (Monday-Saturday) in six Cactus League stadiums. This year, the Fall League returns to Surprise Stadium. The other five sites — Camelback Ranch-Glendale, Peoria Sports Complex, Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, Scottsdale Stadium and Sloan Park — remain intact. Daily start times are 12:35 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. Exceptions will be noted on the schedule that will be announced on Tuesday, August 2. The 11th annual Fall Stars Game will be played Saturday, November 5 at Surprise Stadium. The league’s championship contest is scheduled for Saturday, November 19 at Scottsdale Stadium.
