He was placed on 15-day disabled list with a strained lequad June 11 (retro to 6/10). Smoak had appeared in Seattles first 63 games of the season prior to missing the game on June 10. In games, he is hitting .208 (45x216) with 26 runs, 12 doubles, 7 home runs and 29 RBI this season.

    SAUNDERS ON REHAB ASSIGNMENT: OF Michael Saundersbegan his rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma on June 20. In 2 rehstarts with Tacoma, he is batting .571 (4x7) with 2 runs scored, 1 home run, 3 RBI and 1 walk. Saunders was placed on 15-day disabled lwith right shoulder inflammation following the game on June 11. He had appeared in 52 games with Seattle this season, batting .27(40x147) with 6 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs and 25 RBI. Saunders left the game June 6 after two at-bats, and had played just ongame since (June 10, 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts). In 16 games from May 16 to June 3, Saunders hit .368 (21-for-57) with 3 doubles, 2 triple3 home runs, 18 RBI and a .391 on-base percentage (1.040 OPS).

    HART ON REHAB ASSIGNMENT: OF Corey Hartbegan his rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma on June 21. He went 1-for-4 in his firehab start with Tacoma on June 21 vs. Oklahoma City. Hart, 32, was removed from May 18 vs. the Minnesota Twins with a strained lehamstring. He was evaluated by Mariners Medical Director Dr. Edward Khalfayan the following day in Seattle, where he was diagnosewith a grade 2 hamstring strain. In 37 games this season Hart was batting .209 (29x139) with 5 doubles, 5 home runs and 17 RBI. Hmissed the entire 2013 season after undergoing a pair of knee surgeries.

    COACHING STAFF: Roy Howellis the 29th manager in Tacoma franchise history. Howell is in his third season coaching in the Marineorganization after two seasons as the hitting coach at Class-A Advanced High Desert. His managerial resume includes 3 seasons at shoseason Eugene (2003-05), 3 seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and one season leading the field staff fthe Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged timin the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as three seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-0Pitching coach Jaime Navarro, who is entering his 6th season with the Mariners organization, returns to the Rainiers after spending thlast 3 seasons as the Mariners bullpen coach.     CALIFORNIA PITCHER OF THE WEEK: RHP Andrew Kittredgewas named California League Pitcher of the Week, June 9-15. He is t6th Mavericks player to receive Player/Pitcher of the Week honor, including the 3rd straight pitcher. Kittredge allowed only 1 hit, whiwalking 2 and striking out 10 over 6.0 scoreless win in 2 relief outings during the week. Overall this season he is 3-0 with 2 saves and 3.79 ERA (20 ER, 44.1 IP) in 22 relief appearances. He has limited opponents to a .293 (54x184) average, while walking 15 and strikinout 42.

    ALL-STAR GAME RECAP: The California League All-Stars held a 3-0 lead after 4.0 innings and held on to defeat the Carolina League AStars 3-2 on Tuesday night. DH Gabriel Guerrerowas the lone Maverick on the California League All-Star team. He started at DH and h7th in the lineup, going 0-for-2 in the game.

    COACHING STAFF: The Mariners California League affiliate, the High Desert Mavericks, will be managed by Eddie Menchaca, who spethe previous 3 seasons with Clinton. He enters his 6th season in the Mariners organization, including 4 as manager. Menchaca has led hsquad to the postseason in each of the last 4 seasons, accumulating a 238-243 (.495) record. Pitching coach Andrew Lorraineenters h1st season with High Desert after spending the last 2 seasons with Clinton. Hitting coach Max Venablebegins his 1st season as coachthe Mariners organization. Venable appeared parts of 12 seasons in the Major Leagues as an outfielder, including stints with the Gian(1979-83), the Expos (1984), the Reds (1985-87), and the Angels (1989-91).
