Principal’s MessageI have just come back from watching the Toronto Campus students return from chapel. The joyous smiles and enthusiastic greetings as they line up for class is just amazing. They are all a delight. As I sat watching, I reflected on the value we have chosen to promote across the school to finish our journey –JOY. As we look back on the year we have so much, so many memories to bring us joy! I am not talking about a superficial, happy clappy pep rally joy.,It brings me joy, when I see students doing their best in classwork and really focusing on the task. It brings me joy, when the TCN news crew are focused and producing an excellent report. It brings me joy to see smiling faces of K-2 as Nanna shares the new growth in the vegie patch.I don’t know about you but to finish the year on a note of joy, brings a reflection of all the good times, the jobs done well, the memories made! As we finish the year together let’s promote joy. Our Toronto Campus is a joy!

‘When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food, clothes to wear and a job to do. Above all give thanks for the joy of all this and more. It is a joy to be alive!!’ -Tecumseh

As the season of ‘‘Joy to the world, the Lord is come…’ approaches and the creative lights decorate our homes, let’s focus on the things that really count!!

Enjoy the news for this week.

Pre-Kindy This week we made some yummy chips from the potatoes we harvested from our school garden. We had quite a production line in our classroom as we washed, peeled, and chopped the potatoes. Then we baked them in the oven and shared them with the rest of the school. We had nine trays of chips altogether!!! It seems some of us have quite an appetite!!

We have been practising lots for our items for Presentation Night. We will be playing a bell item and singing with the whole school too. Presentation Night is on Tuesday the 9 December. Children need to be at our Campus Church by 6:30pm. On the same day, we will be having our class party. Children need to bring a plate of food to share together for our lunch. We will start at 12:30pm with a little presentation time where the children will share something they have learnt at school this year. Parents, please come along if you are free. We would love an audience to share our accomplishments with! After lunch, if you would like to sign your child out early, you may have an early mark. We should be all finished around 1:30pm. It will be a long day on Tuesday as everyone needs to be back at 6:30pm.

Children need to wear their usual school uniform to school on Tuesday as we are planning on taking a class photo. Hopefully they will stay clean enough for Presentation Night later that evening.

It’s hard to believe we are so close to finishing for the year. I am very proud of the Pre-Kindy students and all they have achieved. Well done everyone!!!

Wow! I cannot believe that this year has come to a close. We have had lots of fun in class this week finishing up our projects and concluding our units. The highlight of the week for many was chip day on Tuesday. Students picked the potatoes that have been growing in our garden and they had the opportunity to wash, peel, cut and cook the potatoes into yummy chips! This was a great experience and a practical way of showing how foods are made. We have also had the opportunity this week to practice our songs and special items for Speech Night next week. We are getting better and better and we are all so excited to show you our special items next Tuesday!

3-6 classWe have been very busy preparing for Speech Night this week. We have had lots of rehearsals so that we can be ready for this special occasion. Please plan to come along and support our Speech Night.

We have been learning about graphs in Maths, among other things. We now know that you need to collect data to be able to prepare a graph and this can be done by surveying people. We enjoyed our Physical Education lesson this week with Mrs Ginn even though it was on a very hot day. We have very much enjoyed our time with Mrs Ginn this year, as we have with Miss Parsons for Music, Ms Curzi for LOTE and Mrs Thompson for TCN and other great things. We want to say a BIG thank you to each one of these teachers for the extraordinary job they have done of teaching us this year. Our sincere thanks also go to Pastor Wazza for coming and taking Bible studies in our class. We want to wish him all of the very best as he moves to Sydney and begins a new job there.

We want to extend our best wishes to the Year 6 students who will soon be going off to high school. It has been so lovely to have them part of our class and we are really going to miss them!

Have a wonderful holiday everyone!

Before and After School CareIn response to the parent survey we are working on registering a Before and After School Care centre. This will make Toronto Campus a one stop for longer care than school hours. If you are interested in this service then please see Mrs Bennett in the Office.

School busWe continue to fundraise for a reliable and safe bus for the children. The Toronto Church is currently conducting a fundraising drive to support this project.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

general newsSchool FeesThank you to all those parents who keep up with school fee payments. We really need your cooperation to settle your fee accounts. We have bills to pay and teachers’ wages and the income from fee payments is crucial. Please see Tammy in the Office to make these payments. Thank you!

Mufti DayMufti Day for students in K-6 will be held on Tuesday 9 December 2014. Students will need to bring along a gold coin for the privilege of wearing casual clothes. The money raised from our Mufti Day will go towards supporting Muru who is a boy in Asia we sponsor through Asian Aid.

Pre-Kindy 2015The exciting news is that from 2015 our Pre-Kindy program will be starting in Term 1 and will continue to run in Terms 2-4. We are also adding an extra day to our program which means that parents will have the option of sending their children to Mrs Thompson’s class on Thursdays as well as on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please contact Mrs Bennett in the Office to book a place for your child.

K-2 TeacherSadly, Miss Stewart will be leaving our school at the end of this year. We want to thank her very much for her contribution to our school. We have loved having her at Toronto Campus. In 2015 we are delighted to have an early childhood specialist, Mrs Janese Cameron currently teaching Kindy at Avondale School Cooranbong Campus, join us here at Toronto.

Library NewsLibrary time this week involved munching on some yummy pizza. I am always surprised just how much young children can eat!! Everyone was thankful they had worked hard and put in a good borrowing effort. Well down super readers!

Gardening NewsThe highlight of the garden this week was picking yummy potatoes and then cooking them to make delicious hot chips! Thank you to the parents and helpers who helped us do this. Another big thank-you to those who donated their time and resources to make the garden a success this year.

TCN NEWSThe TCN news crew has been very busy and on Thursday they filmed their last edition of the news for the year. They all did a very good job. This latest edition will be shown at Presentation Night, so look forward to seeing what has been happening at school recently. This Sunday Night at 7pm, is our TCN Awards Night where family and friends of the Year 3-6 Class are invited to attend a special night to celebrate the achievements of the news crew. Please remember to bring a small plate to share for our supper. It will be a fun time seeing behind the scenes at TCN. On our last filming day for the year, we were privileged to use our brand new teleprompter. Nick did a great job of figuring out how to use it. We had a few hiccups at first, but we got it sorted in the end. Well done team. You are an inspiration!!
