Project Description
Origins
The first of these events (called then Operation
Sail and Cutty Sark) were more than 50 years
ago (1956), and they have grown in size and
prestige ever since. Today, they routinely attract
a fleet of 80 - 100+ sail training vessels from
circa 30 countries, 6 - 8,000 trainees from circa
50 countries, 3 - 4 million visitors and 300 - 400
media representatives to the four/ five host
ports, and occasional Royal patronage.
The Tall Ships Races are planned four years in
advance with the route carefully selected to
enable visits to different sea areas around
Europe, from the Baltic to the Mediterranean.
4
Patronage
5
The President of Russian Federation Mr.V.Putin has
officially agreed to be the Patron of the Regatta.
Other Patrons:
Rosen Plevneliev, President of the Republic of Bulgaria
Traian Băsescu, the President of Romania
Originality
• The regatta will pass for the first time along the Black Sea coast.
• Regatta calling to Novorossiysk will be devoted to admirals to M. P. Lazarev, L.M. Serebryakov and
general N.N. Rajevski.
• The Russian big sailing vessels of class "A" - "Sedov", "Krusenstern", “Mir", “Nadezhda” will take part
in the regatta.
Purpose
SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2014 is a unique
maritime event set to open the south door to the
international guests. It will take place on the Black Sea
in May 2014 in Sochi and Novorossiysk. Main purpose
of hosting the SCF Tall Ships Races 2014 is the
development and education of young people through
the sail training experience, regardless of nationality,
culture, religion, gender or social background.
There are many economic, social and community-
oriented reasons why Sochi and Novorossiysk will
become Host Ports for The Black Sea Tall Ships
Races. Traditionally, huge crowds (from many
hundreds of thousands to well over a million) visit a
port during the event, bringing welcome income to the
port, city and local businesses, plenty of national and
international media attention, and a range of
opportunities for community involvement and
enjoyment.
