  • 12. THE EXACT SPEECH Slade: Mr. Sims doesnt want it. He doesnt need tolabeled: "Still worthy of being a Baird Man." What thehell is that? What is your motto here? "Boys, inform onyour classmates, save your hide" -- anything short ofthat were gonna burn you at the stake?Well, gentlemen, when the shit hits the fan some guysrun and some guys stay. Heres Charlie facing the fire;and theres George hidin in big Daddys pocket. Andwhat are you doin? Youre gonna reward George anddestroy Charlie. Trask: Are you finished, Mr. Slade?
  • 13. Slade: No, Im just gettin warmed up. I dont know whowent to this place, William Howard Taft, William JenningsBryan, William Tell -- whoever. Their spirit is dead -- if theyever had one -- its gone. Youre building a rat ship here. Avessel for sea goin snitches. And if you think yourpreparing these minnows for manhood you better thinkagain. Because I say you are killing the very spirit thisinstitution proclaims it instills! What a sham. What kind ofa show are you guys puttin on here today. I mean, the onlyclass in this act is sittin next to me. And Im here to tell yathis boys soul is intact. Its non-negotiable. You know howI know? Someone here -- and Im not gonna say who --offered to buy it. Only Charlie here wasnt sellin. Trask: Sir, you are out of order!
  • 14. Slade: Outta order? Ill show you outta order! You dont knowwhat outta order is, Mr. Trask! Id show you but Im too old; Imtoo tired; Im too fuckin blind. If I were the man I was five yearsago Id take a FLAME-THROWER to this place! Outta order.Who the hell you think youre talkin to? Ive been around, youknow? There was a time I could see. And I have seen boys likethese, younger than these, their arms torn out, their legs rippedoff. But there isnt nothin like the sight of an amputated spirit;there is no prosthetic for that. You think youre merely sendinthis splendid foot-soldier back home to Oregon with his tailbetween his legs, but I say you are executin his SOUL!! Andwhy?! Because hes not a Baird man! Baird men, ya hurt thisboy, youre going to be Baird Bums, the lot of ya. AndHarry, Jimmy, Trent, wherever you are out there, FUCKYOU, too!
  • 15. Mr. Trask: Stand down, Mr. Slade! Slade: Im not finished! As I came in here, I heard those words, "cradle ofleadership." Well, when the bow breaks, the cradle will fall. And it has fallenhere; it has fallen. Makers of men; creators of leaders; be careful what kind ofleaders youre producin here. I dont know if Charlies silence here today isright or wrong. Im not a judge or jury. But I can tell you this: he wont sell anybody out to buyhis future!! And that, my friends, is called integrity! Thats called courage! Nowthats the stuff leaders should be made of. Now I have come to the crossroads inmy life. I always knew what the right path was. Without exception, I knew. ButI never took it. You know why? It was too damn hard. Now heres Charlie. Hescome to the crossroads. He has chosen a path. Its the right path. Its a pathmade of principle -- that leads to character. Let him continue on his journey. You hold this boys future in your hands, committee. Its a valuable future.Believe me. Dont destroy it! Protect it. Embrace it. Its gonna make ya proudone day -- I promise you.

UNDOUBTEDLY, THE STRENGHT &COURAGE OF CHARLIE IS PRAISEWORTHY. BUT WITHTHE PROGRESSION OF THE STORY WE UNDERSTANDTHAT THERE IS MANY A SLIP BETWEEN THE CUP NTHE LIP . WE WITNESS HOW CIRCUMSTANCES NMANY OTHER INDIVIDUALS HAVE MOULDED SLADEINTO A MISERABLE MAN , AND ALSO DISCOVER THESECRET OF TRANSFORMATION BEING SHOWEREDUPON LOVE , ACCEPTANCE N THROUGH EXAMPLE. SO,IT TEACHES US TO BE NON- JUDGEMENTAL NUPHOLD UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD.

HOWEVER, I FEEL , UNLIKE THEPROTAGONISTS OF TROY N GLADIATOR OR EVENSHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, HE IS NOT VIRTUOUS, AND HIS DESIRES ARE INDEED THE ASPIRATIONS OFTHE MODERN MAN , SOMEHOW IT SEEMS THEYDONT GO ON A VERY HIGH SCALE IN THE CHART OFMASLOW, THE MAN WOMAN EQUATION IS ALSO OFCHAUVANISM . TO SOME EXTENT , IT ALSOGLORIFIES BRIBERY & PROSTITUTION.
  • 18. WANTING TO BE RIGHTEOUS VS.RIGHTEOUSSLADE WAS SOCIALLY TRAINED BY THE ARMY TOBE RIGHTEOUS, SO HE PROJECTED STRENGHTALL THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE, NEVER HAVINGBELIEVED IN IT OR EXPERIENCED IT FIRST HAND.SO, THIS MEETING N THE JOURNEY TOGETHERHELPS SLADE BECOME CONSCIOUS OF HISRELATIVE HOLLOWNESS N REASONS FOR HISBAD FORTUNE, BEING BLESSED WITHINSIGHT, HE FORGIVES OTHERS N HIMSELF, REDEEMED FOREVER. AS A SOCIETY , WEEXPERIENCE A SIMILAR STRING OF EMOTIONS .

HOW THE EMOTIONAL HANDICAP IS A GREATERPROBLEM THAN THE PHYSICAL ONE , IF THE INNERALIENATION IS CURED THE EXTERNAL LOOSES ITSMEANING . ALSO , HOW , THIS MAN INSPITE OF NOT BEING ABLETO SEE, HAS A GREATER POWER OF DISCRETION ASHE IS ABLE TO BE A BETTER JUDGE THAN THE JURYOF THE PREMIER COLLEGE.
  • 21. . WHATEVER GOES COMES BACK.THIS IS SOME MESSAGE THAT ALL FILMS N NOVELSPOTRAY.THE RULE OF CAUSE N EFFECT ALWAYS WORKS .AND MOSTLY ITS THOSE ACTS OF BENOVELENCE &BRAVERY DONE WITHOUT THE INTENTION OF AGAIN IN RETURN THAT RETURN , SOLVING ONEOF YOUR OWN PROBLEM. THIS IS WHATHAPPENS HERE IN THE COURAGEOUS ACT OFCHARLIE OF BRAVING DEATH , TO UPHOLDRIGHTEOUSNESS, OFFERING HIM A FRUIT OFNOT BEING PUNISHED IN D CLIMAX.
  • 22. A FEELING OF CATHARSIS.TRIUMPH OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT. WITH NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO LOOKFORWARD TO ,WITH NO LOVE N AFFECTION IN DIMMEDIATE ENVIRONMENT , HIS INABILITY TOBRAVE LIFE , INSTILLS IN US PITY .LIKE AFLICKERING BULB , HE IS A MIRROR TO THEDAMPENED SPIRITS OF ALL OF US. BUT WHENULTIMATELY HIS INNER SPIRIT IS REIGNITED, AND HIS LEADERSHIP IS ACKNOWLEDGED IN DIMMEDIATE ENVIRONMENT , IT IS A VICTORY OFTHE HUMAN SPIRIT FOR US.
  • 23. IF A MAN ON THE VERGE OFDEATH , CAN BE ENTHUSIASTICABOUT LIFE , WHY CANT WE THIS IS THE OVERALL IMPACT OF THE FILM ONUS. AT THE FAG END OF HIS LIFE , THOUGH HE ISDEPRESSED N WISHES , TO COMMITSUICIDE, WHAT STANDS OUT THE MOST IS HISZEAL FOR WOMEN , FOR FERRARI , DANCE, HISYOUTHFUL SPIRIT N SPONTANEITY. HIS MEMORYIN OUR PSYCHE IS ETCHED AS OF AN OLD MANWHO TAUGHT US THE TRUE MEANING OFLIVING LIFE KING SIZE.
  • 24. MODERN FAMILY , DELEGATION &CLASS.OWING TO INDUSTRIALISATION , THE SENSE OFBELONGINGNESS IN MODERN FAMILIES IS MOSTLYLOST . ALSO THE AGE OLD INNATE BEHAVIOUR OFTAKING CARE OF THE OLD IS SOON DECAYING .THE AGE OF DELEGATION HAS REACHED A PEAK, WHERE LOOKING AFTER THE OLD OR THE YOUNGHAS ALSO GOT DELEGATED .THE RELATIVELY LESS PRIVELEDGED ,HAS NO WAY OFMEETING FAMILY BUT DO A PART TIME JOB , ANDTHE WEALTHY GEORGE WAS SAFEGUARDED IN TIMESOF CRISIS , BECAUSE OF FATHER`S POWER NPOSITION.
  • 25. THE STAND OF THE COLLEGE THE BOARD IS CORRECT IN ITS PLACE WHERE THEYWISH TO CULTIVATE LEADERS N THE ANTI SOCIALACTIVITY ONLY SHOWS IMMATURITY ON THE PARTOF THE PUPILS, BUT WHAT WAS WRONG ON THEIRPART WAS TO LURE HIM A LETTER OFRECOMMENDATION NOT BECAUSE OF HIS MERITS, BUT FOR THE BOARD`S OWN PERSONAL BENEFITS. IN MY OPINION, EVEN CHARLIE IS WRONG ON HISPART BY NOT SHARING THE NAMES OF THE PEOPLE, BECAUSE AS A MAN OF CHARACTER HIS LOYALTIESMUST REMAIN WITH THE IDEAL , N NOT HISFRIENDS WHO DID WRONG , SO , PERSONALLY I AMNOT FULLY CONVINCED WITH THE ARGUMENT.
