As a recognised leader in Business Intelligence, it was only fitting that we showcase our muscle with advanced analytics. To do this we addressed the top technology priorities of CIOs with the latest in touch technology on our stand with the support of our Cape Town colleagues. Further we hosted Founder and Chairman of ZapFi, Gery Pollet from Belgium. ZapFi is an intelligent mobile solutions company that is prolific in its use of SAS throughout Europe. Gery gave an adapted PBLS Amsterdam presentation to the attending delegates on “Influencing consumer acquisition and loyalty through actionable insights and targeted location-based mobile marketing”. Our participation brought about many interactions, new business and networking that is sure to continue positioning SAS as a market leader. Well done on the great finish of Q3! I am very proud of our team! And now it’s the final quarter and this is when it all counts…the finish! I could not have asked for a better start and for this I thank each one of you. Please try and attend Friday 11 October’s company meeting where we will share with you what’s required to finish strong! Each Account Executive will go through the remaining deals for this year and detail what support is required from each of us to close these out. I want to pay out 100% of the financial portion of your bonus plan! Help me do this! See you on Friday! Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us We ask ourselves Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous Actually, who are you not to be Your playing small does not serve the world ere’s nothing enlightened about shrinking So that other people won’t feel insecure around you We are all meant to shine, as children do We were born to make manifest e glory that is within us It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone And as we let our own light shine We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same As we’re liberated from our own fear Our presence automatically liberates others. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us
We ask ourselvesWho am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented, fabulousActually, who are you not to be
Your playing small does not serve the world
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you
We are all meant to shine, as children do
We were born to make manifest The glory that is within us
It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone
And as we let our own light shine We unconsciously give other people
permission to do the sameAs we’re liberated from our own fear Our presence automatically liberates
others.

SOME HUMOUR…
sas® forumJOHANNESBURG 2013Our annual SAS forum took place on Wednesday and Thursday, 2nd and 3rd October 2013 at The Campus in Bryanston, Johannesburg. The 5–star graded conference and event venue hosted almost 400 delegates, speakers and media personnel over the two days. Jeremy Maggs facilitated the morning sessions on day one. This consisted of the
Executive panel discussion and the “Are you smarter than SAS” game show which got everyone excited for the remainder of the event.
Overall there were 35 tracks, 56 demo sessions, 9 international presenters and 6 amazing prize giveaways.
Some of the solutions that were
covered at the Forum were: Predictive Analytics, Procurement Fraud, Social Media Analytics, SAS Education and Public Security to name a few.
A Big thank you goes out to everyone for working together in order to make this event such a huge success.
Are you the voice of SAS?We are looking for someone to do our voice overs for the SAS telephone holding system. Are you articulate and have the ability to use your voice for different types of delivery? Interested ? You need to:
Record yourself on your phone reading a paragraph
(not more than 5 lines)Email your recording to Naledi in Marketing before Friday 25 Octo-ber 2013, or come to marketing so we can record you.The chosen person will record the voice overs in a recording studio (and you never know which celebrities we could bump into whilst we are there).
The World Year of Statistics, a global initiative was celebrated at UP on 3 October 2013 with a gala event, hosted in the Aula Foyer. This initiative at UP aimed to pro-mote awareness and importance of statistics across all fields, and in the daily life of all associated with UP. A wide array of dignitaries were present from SAS Institute, StatsSA, the National Research Foundation, and various other companies and representatives from industry.
As part of these celebrations, a competition (WYSUP2013 com-petition) was launched by the De-partment of Statistics earlier this year, with a theme of “Unexpected Statistics”. Entries had to be visual in nature and exhibit statistics in a relevant way. Michaela Gioco-vazzi, a 2nd year BSc Actuarial Science student, came out on top to win the grand 1st prize of R 15 000 cash (generously sponsored by The SAS Institute).
Ms Giocovazzi’s entry was a can-vas, the size of a door, with over a 1000 white origami shirts pasted on it – with one single red shirt – her unexpected statistic.
SAS was the sponsor for this event and their continued involvement resulted in its remarkable success.
