Derek and Carola  went mountain biking at Groenkloof, Pretoria and were privileged enough to see some wildlife!

Matthew road tripped with his girlfriend Kate and brother; who visited from Australia! They traveled from Jo’burg to Livingstone via Botswana. One highlight was when they stopped off at the salt pans at Nata in central Botswana!

Over the December holidays I stayed home and spent a lot of time entertaining my kids and my friends. I had Daniel, Lebo and

Tumi over with their family at my house for a get together which really turned out to be lovely. Gershuine was not around as he went to Durban so he really missed out on a good party. - Karen

on.The Figueira family had the privilege of going to Mauritius for our annual holiday as a result of my Employee of the Year award which we utilized and

There was a bit of reservation when booking for the Elephant Safari after having read Lawrence Andrew’s book, Elephant Whisperer, because Elephants should actually roam Africa’s bush free and wild as they were created to be.Yet, experience is the best teacher, and in this case it was true. The magnificent beasts we met were rescued from a pos-sible worse fate in Zimbabwe. The 45 minute safari in the game re-serve was made extra special by the little 6-month old baby who proved to be the star of the day with his antics in the pools of water formed by the previous

night’s rain. He kept us laughing most of the way.Being at eye-level with flying birds – as my friend described it – is quite an amazing ex-perience. You appreciate the moments

with these gentle but com-manding beasts, knowing that they are patient, but demand respect.Feeding revealed something interesting: we thought their tongues would we rough like that of cattle, but they are as soft as silk. The day proved to be full of new things to learn that we did not know or expect. Elephants are described as determined, loyal, honorable, patient, stable, trustworthy, powerful, having a sense of pride, having a sense of self-worth, endowed with royalty, well developed sensitivity, and social connectedness. Some good skills to learn from them..‘When was the last time you did something for the first time?’ is a motto we as a friendship circle adopted a long time ago. This time around it proved to be a very nice choice indeed.. - Andoret

added onto so that we could go as a fam-ily. It was certainly the best holiday yet. We were mesmer-ized by the crystal clear & wonderfully warm water of the Indian ocean, sunny, sandy beaches, many colorful little birds, beautiful flowers and many palm trees. I discovered snorkeling and was blown away by the beautiful coral and being among the tropical fish. It was a

purely luxurious treat and I left Mauritius feeling rejuvenated and ready for a New Year!!

Tell us about yourselfI have a zest for life and consider myself a student on this incredible journey called life. I have been in the IT industry far too long and somehow karmi-cally find myself continuously drawn back to this exhilarating industry which never ceases to amaze me in terms of all the latest, sexiest gadgets and tools that continue to surround us and enable us to do the impossible. No surprise as I observe my 9 year old  addicted to an I-pad rather than a chalk board which in his words is “ so lame” each time I share experi-ences of my school years.  I’m learning to be more child-like as I realize how stiff the corporate world can make one and grateful that my little one con-stantly reminds me how to enjoy the simple things in life. I’m extremely analytical and sometimes to my detriment, thank goodness for my better half who is tolerant and accepting to all that I am.  Why Sales? The thrill , the challenge, meeting new people, new engagements and successfully closing a business deal is a high of a different sort. You either love it or you hate it.

What is your favourite thing to do when you are not at work?Teaching the Art of Living courses and or looking at innovative ways of  broadening the work that we do as The International Association for Human Values for which I am a board member.

What words do you live by?Life is enthusiasm, Life is celebration.

What three things are on your bucket list?1. To buy a Porsche, one that is snazzier than the

one that frequents the SAS offices in JHB.2. To initiate a volunteer based IT project that will

allow our youth to be involved in contributing 2 hours of their time in a month teaching those less fortunate. For these youth to work together in putting a basic IT /Computer training manual (3 Saturdays)which will share our world of technol-ogy as we know it to excite and inspire others. This will hopefully channel some of their bore-dom to something useful and fun. Giving them a revived focus.  A focus from competition to con-tribution. The plan is all in my head. This project keeps me awake at night.

3. Learning to play the guitar. Bought one 3 years ago and still unable to play the basic notes. Look-ing for a teacher who will have the patience to teach me.
