Club Business was also conducted & concluded: !The Sandwich Newcomers and Neighbors Nominating Committee proposed a slate of officers and activity direc-tors for the coming business year. The slate was unanimously approved by the board of directors and was nar-rowly approved at the annual meeting/picnic in June after a raucous crowd nearly wrecked the outdoor dining area at the Holly Ridge Club over the highly controversial nominations of Bill Holcombe for Newsletter Editor and Wade Sayer for Publicity. The slate approved was: !

President, Candice Murphy Vice President, Peter Williams Treasurer, Jack Sample Secretary, Marge Foster Membership, Annie Adler Wine Socials, Patty Williams Newsletter Editor, Bill Holcombe Publicity, Wade Sayer Special Events, Marie Luck !!!! !

Upcoming Events !

SNN Annual Beach Party Details Above Saturday, July 15th Contact Grace Sample at 774-413-5330 or [email protected] to let her know that you will be coming to the party.       !!!Plan Ahead… Lobster Cruise Tuesday, August 8th, 6:00 pm We're now reserved for the Sunset Cruise on August 8.  Two hour sunset cruise with lobster or prime rib dinner in Sesuit Harbor on August 8 ($49).  If you are interested, let Beth Houlihan know by email ([email protected]) or phone (508-833-9144) as soon as possible.  She needs to reserve spaces on the boat during this busy summer season.  She reserved spots for nine people on the August 8 dinner, not sunset (For 10 or more they wanted a credit card so I need to know who's in-terested and then reserve more spots and use my credit card, if necessary.) The Sunset Cruise boards at 6:00 ($49). For those who do not want a whole boiled lobster, there are other choices:  prime rib, lobster roll or chicken Caesar salad.  There is a cash bar. !This takes place in lieu of the monthly Wine Social. !And yet Another Cruise !Sailboat cruise on the Liberte out of Falmouth Harbor will take place August 31st Sunset Sail 6:00 pm. EMail Patty Williams [email protected] to reserve your spot on the boat. You will pay when you arrive at the dock. The sail is about two hours. There will be a cash bar and we are welcome to bring food on board. !

FYI—Editors Note Bill Holcombe will take over from Wade Sayer publishing this Newsletter. Kudos to Wade for the job he's done. I don't expect to be as reliable or competent as Wade has been over the past few years. !We intend to have a section for poetry, quotations, book reviews, and whatever else moves any of us to contribute in a given month. !Last week I was poking around Sandwich Library and picked up Reality is Not What It Seems--The Journey to Quantum Gravity by Carlo Rovelli. He's an Italian physicist teaching in Marseille France who writes in a nice readable style if you go for this sort of material and earlier wrote Seven Brief Lessons on Physics, a NY Times bestseller. The author starts with Thales of Miletus and Democritus and works his way through Aristotle, Newton, Einstein, Paul Dirac, Heisenberg and on through the latest and greatest and most recent incomprehensible stuff going on today. I particularly liked a reference he made to Dante and how the 14th Century poet came up with a metaphorically accurate depiction of the Einstein relativistic universe--all replete with 3 sphere diagrams. I think anyone who's a sucker for these science-for-those- challenged-by-complex-equations-and-imponderable-cosmological-questions might enjoy this book. !!!!

NOTE: Newcomer annual dues ($25.00 per person) are due July 1your check payable to “SNN” to Annie Adler, 7 Inkberry Circle, Sandwich, MA 02563
