A few days ago I went to Brisbane to attend a ceremony held for the first time by the Brisbane Branch of The Hong Kong Australia Business Association in giving out the Business Award. There I met a number of businessmen doing trading across Hong Kong and Australia. In recent issues we have been reporting on similar award ceremonies held in Adelaide,Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. I notice the distinct features relating

These award-winning enterprises are involved in businesses of exporting natural resources, trading of processed products, promotion of educational and scientific services and trafficking of agricultural produces.

Because many newly arrived immigrants may find some relatively remote cities less vibrant, hard to find jobs and with sparse Chinese communities for them to adapt, so many tend to settle in the two popular cities of Melbourne and Sydney. The recent ABSs reported statistics however reveal while the first generation immigrants have mainly settled in the coastal capital cities, many of our 2ndgeneration prefer to move inland and start settling in some smaller townships where they can enjoy more open nature lifestyle given that then they can hang on some good jobs and living standard.

I think as when more immigrants come onshore there is no need for us to stick around the usual capital cities. Actually cities such as Adelaide, Brisbane and Darwin are attracting more Chinese immigrants as they have more lenient policy on immigrant sponsorship scheme. Yet after acquiring the PR some immigrants still prefer to move over to bigger cities for long term settlement.

In Brisbane I came across Chinese immigrants who have done well in their career development as with their Sydney and Melbourne counterparts. Seeing that their business achievements are being so recognised, I know there is still much unexplored opportunity for us as Chinese immigrant across this country. I believe our persistent vision of Sameway in broadening the horizon of our readers through our published materials on communities all over Australia will bring upon opportunities for better development.
