Prayer for the sick
Father, Your love is as wide as the oceans As deep as the sea,
And as tall as the heavens. May your spirit rise like a mighty wave and come
and restore those who are ill. You are the water of life, You are a fresh spring, You are healing rain
To all those who are in need. Amen

6TH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 6, 2018
A note from
Father Tom
I begin by drawing your attention to three items in this weekend’s bulletin beyond the lines of my “Note8”
1. You will find a notice from me concerning a “Report of Capital Work and Expenses for Winter/Spring 2018.”
2. It is noted for Thursday, May 10 that this day will be the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord, a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass will be celebrated at 8a.m. and 7p.m. on this day.
3. We have received notice of the assignment of a seminarian for a 10-week internship with us. Christian Cortes will arrive in Rockdale on May 19.
Now, to the Sixth Sunday of Easter 8!
When the Scriptures speak of “giving yourself” as the total gift of love, what does that mean for each of us? To give ourselves as “an offering,” as Jesus has done for us is, in some ways, the same for all of us, and in other ways as unique as each of us is. We all seek to be more mindful of others, to discipline ourselves to put the needs of others ahead of our own when and as we can, to realize and truly believe that the sacri-fice of Christ, shared with us from the altar is a sacri-fice meant to take flesh in all of us, for my sake, for your sake, for the sake of the promise of salvation for the world! The “trickier” part comes when we look more deeply into the heart of loving sacrifice that takes place not “in the flesh” in some general, vague sense, but really in the flesh, yours and mine. What does my voice sound like when it is more finely tuned to the voice with which Jesus speaks? How does my strength, powerful and/or gentle look and feel when it is being applied to the needs of those in the world around me? What sacrifices in my life are consistent with the sac-rifice of Jesus on Calvary? I want to thank Andy Lemoine for initiating last Saturday’s furniture pick-up in collaboration with the Central MA Housing Alliance, and Peter Sabourin for being on hand to assist so many of you who dropped what became an entire truckload of donations!

Report of Capital Work and Expenses Winter / Spring 2018
Replacement, Circulator Pump, Parish Center 2,920.00 Repair of Locks, Integrated Key System, Parish Center, Church, and Rectory 1,347.85 Replacement, Sewer Pipe Connector, Church 6,445.00 Repairs to doors, ceilings and storage, Church & Rectory 1,292.80 —---—-------
$18,111.65
This figure represents costs of work that was deemed nec-essary, though not provided for in the budget. As quickly as we have been replenishing “parish savings intended for capital projects” during the current fiscal year, we have had to withdraw funds deposited and more.
This weekend’s Contribution Summary Sheet reflects the deposit of a gift of $4,500.00 given anonymously to help us meet these expenses which were unanticipated but deemed necessary. It would be a great help to our finan-cial picture if others could see our way to making one-time contributions toward these specific, completed expendi-tures. Such contributions would, in effect, help us to maintain the balanced budget in our sights, and to ensure that funds will be in our reserve accounts should anything else come up during the fiscal year. If you should be able and willing to do so, please contact me, Fr. Tom, or simply enclose a contribution appropri-ately marked as intended for Capital Work and Expenses, with checks made out to St. Peter’s Parish. (These contri-butions would be credited to your record of contributions to the parish.) Thank you for understanding the impor-tance and necessity of the work we have done, and for considering the possibility of supporting these projects financially as stewards in the present moment and for our future.

us with a beautiful new, linen altar cloth and the new altar
candle holders on the Altar of Sacrifice. The two sets of
matching candle holders we have had are now at the Eu-
charistic and Marian Shrines.

The Edge middle school youth ministry met this past week to talk about vocations. We took a tour of the church and talked about all the different things that make our faith special and the Mass so spectacular. We will meet as usual this Tuesday. The 8th graders will be doing their first Safe environment training as part of the night.
The lifeteen group will meet this Sunday for a service project to begin immediately after dinner at 6:00pm. Kids should be sure to bring work gloves and any gardening tools they may have available.
