Pope Tweets

@Pontifex

Let’s promote friendship and respect between men

and women of different religious traditions in order

to build a world of peace.

April 26, 2017

The presence of Jesus can be communicated through

our lives and the language of gratuitous

and concrete love

April 29, 2017

From the Pastoral Associate

At every baptism preparation session, I ask parents to introduce themselves and answer

the question “What do you hope baptism will do for your child and for your family?” It is

easy to think about sacraments in terms of the first part of that question, what the effects will

be on the recipient of a sacrament. As a child receives the sacrament of baptism, it is the

hope of parents that it marks the beginning of a life of faith, salvation through Jesus Christ,

an official welcome to the community and to the family of God. The second part of the

question, what does a sacrament do for the family or the community at large can be a little more difficult to put

one’s finger on. This past weekend I was reminded of the role sacramental moments can play in the life of a

family as my daughter was confirmed along with 48 other young people. A sacrament is not an end point but a

point along a journey in which we can encounter God in a unique way. As I was witnessing my daughter’s

Confirmation, I too was struck by God’s overwhelming love for each of us. The joy in the assembly was

palpable, the witness of these young people inspiring. Yes, indeed the sacrament did do something for our

family that day. It was a reminder that we in fact witness God’s love for us in the small and sometimes

mundane moments of our lives and in the sacramental moments as well. The Holy Spirit is gift. It has been a

gift in my life, the life of my family, and the life of this community.

About the Catholic Faith?

Perhaps you have been worshiping with us, but have

never took steps to become Catholic or perhaps you

have joined us from a different denomination but

are now being called to the Catholic Church. The

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the

process through which non-baptized individuals or

those baptized in another denomination become

members of the Catholic Church. This process is

also available to someone who may have been

baptized Catholic but has not received the

sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. To learn

more about the RCIA program at St. Peter’s please

call Anna Molettieri at 617-547-4235 x117 or email

at [email protected].

Parish Picnic - Save the Date

Sunday, June 4, 12:30 - 3:00 p.m.

Block off this date for our annual parish picnic and

the best food and entertainment. Our cookout will

include hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, salads,

desserts (including ice cream sundaes), and

beverages. Loads of entertainment and activities for

all ages, including a live band, children’s story teller,

and other surprises we’ll tell you about in the coming

weeks. The picnic is open to our parishioners free of

charge. Don’t miss it!

How to Pray - Lectio Divina Workshop Saturday, May13, 8:45 a.m. - Noon, Parish Ctr

How do monks pray? This morning workshop will

present the monastic practice of Lectio Divina (the

prayerful reading of scripture) and suggest ways for

following this practice in daily living. Led by Fr.

Nicholas, a Benedictine monk and former Abbot of

Glastonbury Abbey, a monastery in Hingham. He has

taught and lead retreats at the abbey and elsewhere for

many years. Join us on Saturday morning, May 13,

8:45-noon in the Parish Center. A light breakfast and

coffee will be served. Please RSVP to Anna Molettieri

at [email protected] or

We Need You to Bring the Eucharist to

Our Neighbors Who Cannot Be With Us

Our parish has a growing ministry to bring

communion to people who are in nursing homes,

assisted living facilities, hospitals, as well as to

people who are homebound. Please consider

volunteering! This is a wonderful way to share our

Eucharistic banquet with those who are nearby but

unable to be with us. You can fit this ministry to your

own schedule, in as little as an hour or two a week, on

weekdays or weekends. No prior experience is

needed. Deacon Tim O’Donnell and his wife Elke

will provide training and help with the logistics. If

you are interested in exploring this, please call or

email Deacon Tim at 617-897-1148 or

[email protected].

Food Pantry Needs

We currently need: Breakfast cereal, salad

dressing, parmesan cheese, condiments, salsa,

coffee creamer, honey, milk (such as Parmalat),

juice, healthy snacks such as granola bars, dried

fruit and fruit cups. You may leave your donations

in baskets at the church doors. Thank you!

Confirmed in the Spirit

Congratulations to 26 of our young parishioners who

were confirmed on April 29 in a beautiful liturgy here

at St. Peter’s! We were joined by 23 others from the

French Community, St. John the Evangelist Parish,

and St. Paul Parish. Our celebrant was the Very

Reverend James A. Flavin, Episcopal Vicar of the

archdiocese. May the Holy Spirit strengthen and

guard these newly confirmed as they live out the

Gospel. On our cover: Laurel Carpenter, Magdalena

Cataldo, Andrew Choy, Joseph Daceus, Dorothy

Dignan, Samantha Dignan, Michael DiPasquale,

Hannah Doran, James Eysenbach, Andrew Finn,

Congratulations to Randall

on April 30, when he received the sacraments of

Confirmation and Eucharist. Joining Randall were his

wife, Jodi, sponsor, Dominic, family, and friends.
