As disciples of Jesus, we are called to lead holy lives and invite others to join us. Living a stewardship lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts, serves a twofold purpose. One, it helps build God’s kingdom here on earth. Two, it helps us strengthen each other’s relationship with God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. It becomes our road map to Heaven. Let’s help each other get there!

PIANISTS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY AT ST. MARY,

MILTON! We have an immediate need for accompanists for weekend masses. If you’ve never accompanied singers before, now is a good time to give it a try, since the cantor is the only one singing, with four hymns per mass and no mass parts to play. If you are a proficient pianist, we could use your talents. (Note: St. Mary’s does compensate pianists a small amount for each mass.)

AND HOW ABOUT CANTORING?

If you’ve ever thought about being a cantor for weekend masses, this is a

great time to try that, too. Currently, there are only four hymns to sing at each mass. The mass parts are being recited at this time. If you are interested in sharing your musical talents, please contact Doreen Houge, Music Coordinator, at 608-868-3335, or send an email to [email protected].

Musical Notes…

A Note from Our Pastor ...

Two weeks ago, on Pentecost Sunday, Bishop Hying

officially started an evangelization initiative in our

diocese. He is entitling it "Go Make Disciples" (those

words are the Great Commission, Jesus last words to

us before he ascended into heaven). The project

will proceed in 4 phases, each phase having a 6 month duration, and

now we are in phase I. The focus of phase I is formation of parish

leaders--staff, Pastoral Council, and Finance Council. To all leaders:

we will be discussing this movement in our meetings in the coming

weeks. Phase II, starting late November, will be formation of all the

other members of the parish. Please see madisondiocese.org/

gmd for details and materials. I believe that such an initiative is

needed now more than ever--and, providentially, the Lord is making

available grace for evangelization and conversion now more than

ever! Please read Bishop Hying's columns about this initiative in the

Catholic Herald starting last week and continuing.

We added a new seal to the St. Joseph parking lot a week ago. It

looks good, and it will keep the surface in good operating condition

for the next 5 years.

In neighboring Dane County, Bishop Hying was able to bring a

change in county law so that religious groups were able to gather at

25% capacity. Before he challenged the order, religious groups were

restricted to a maximum of 50 people (in some big churches, that is

only 5% capacity). I admire his courage and conviction! He received

pro bono legal help from attorneys at the Becket Fund for Religious

Liberty, so the diocese didn't pay anything for the legal assistance.

Some Knight News… Next weekend, June 19, 20 and 21, Milton Knights of Columbus will hold their annual Tootsie Roll Drive at businesses around the city of Milton and at weekend Masses. This Leave No Neighbor Behind donation will go to our neighbors at Catholic Charities, Rock County Recreation, and the Apostolate for Person’s with Disabilities. If able, please help where you can. Did you know that Tootsie Rolls helped save U.S. Marines during the Korean War? In 1950, on “Chosin" mountain, in North Korea, 7000 Marines were surrounded by over 80,000 of the enemy. The Marines called in for 60 mm Mortar ammo, code name “Tootsie Rolls”. The radio operator didn’t have a code sheet that would tell him what “Tootsie Rolls” were, so pallets of Tootsie Roll candies were parachuted to the Marines. It wasn’t the ammunition the Marines expected, but it picked up morale, gave the Marines some needed energy, and the chewy candy took their minds off being so hungry and cold. The Marines warmed the candy by carrying them next to their bodies. They learned they could use the warm candy to plug bullet holes in their gas cans and radiators, sealing them as the candy refroze. After two weeks of fighting, the Marines fought their way to the sea. They were called the “Chosin Few”.
