St. Joseph Parish, Wakefield, MA September 29, 2019 Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Parishioners,
October is the month of the Rosary. During Mary’s apparition in Fatima, she requested we recite the rosary to obtain grace, protection, and the glory of heaven. The rosary is a scriptural prayer, for the Hail Mary combines the greetings of the Archangel Gabriel (Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with thee) and Elizabeth (Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.) The mysteries of the rosary help us meditate on the life of Jesus and Mary. As we pray each Hail Mary, we meditate on these mysteries. Each Hail Mary is background music for our meditation. As we meditate on a specific mystery, we seek to apply some of the examples as lessons to our personal life. For instance, the first mystery is the Annunciation. As we reflect on Mary saying yes to God’s invitation to be His mother, may it encourage us to imitate Mary in saying yes to the ways of Jesus as we live our lives each day.
St. Padre Pio had the following thoughts on the rosary; St. Padre Pio called the rosary a weapon because that’s exactly what it is. It’s not just some fuzzy-feeling meditation – the very gates of hell tremble when the rosary is prayed fervently. Convinced of the power of the rosary, Padre Pio always held the rosary in his hands. When his death was approaching, he recommended the rosary to his spiritual children saying: “Love Our Lady and make her loved. Always recite the rosary.” Padre Pio had an astonishingly unconditional, total, perennial, unwavering love for the Virgin Mary. He used to tell a story: “One day Our Lord making rounds of Paradise saw some strange faces. He asked Peter: ‘Who let these people in?’ Peter replied: ‘There is nothing I can do.’ The Lord said, ‘But you have the key.’ Peter said: ‘There is nothing I can do, and you can’t do either.’ The Lord said: ‘What do you mean?’ ‘It’s your mother. She has another key. She lets them in.’”
Caleb asked if he could piggyback on my Pastor’s letter so this is what he wanted to say;
I invite my doggy friends and all that are part of the animal kingdom to come this Saturday for the Blessing of the Animals at 12:00 Noon on the plaza. You all know how we don’t enjoy going to the Veterinary office because they love to invade our space and it’s not fun when we are not feeling well. So let’s all get together and ask the Lord to keep us healthy and safe. We will also ask the Lord to bless all those that love us and take
care of us.
Just a reminder that we will have our monthly Healing Mass this Wednesday, October 2, starting with the rosary at 7:00 p.m.
I will be available for confession this week on Tuesday, October 1, from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.
God love you,

Untying the Rope
One Christian organization’s mission is to promote the healing nature of forgiveness. One of their activities involves a skit in which a person who has been wronged is strapped back to back with a rope to the wrongdoer. Only the one sinned against can untie the rope. No matter what she does, she’s got someone on her back. Without forgiveness—without untying the rope—she cannot escape.
Offering forgiveness to someone who comes to us in sorrow for their wrongdoing begins the process of releasing us and them from the bitterness and pain that can cling to us over wrongs we’ve suffered. In Genesis, we see two brothers separated for twenty years after Jacob stole Esau’s birthright. After this long time, God told Jacob to return to his homeland (Genesis 31:3). He obeyed, but nervously, sending ahead to Esau gifts of herds of animals (32:13–15). When the brothers met, Jacob bowed at Esau’s feet seven times in humility (33:3). Imagine his surprise when Esau ran and embraced him, both of them weeping over their reconciliation (v. 4). No longer was Jacob held by the sin he committed against his brother.
Do you feel imprisoned by unforgiveness, saddled with anger, fear, or shame? Know that God through His Son and Spirit can release you when you seek His help. He will enable you to begin the process of untying any ropes and setting you free.
Men’s Group Men of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a group of ordinary men, seeking an
extraordinary encounter with Jesus Christ. Please join us every Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m., for 1 hour of fellowship, spiritual growth, and encouragement.
The monthly Cenacle for October will be held on Saturday, October 19 in the chapel after the 9:00 a.m. Mass. For more information: Sharon Keith (781) 245-5770.

Our Grade 1 superheroes received a special visit from our very own Zero the Hero on the 10th day of school! Zero never fails to make a special appearance in our first floor classrooms every 10th day of school. Students keep track of how many days of school we have had, and Zero reminds them that you can never have more than 9 ones in your "ones" column. Zero is a very fun way to begin to learn place value!

Laughter, THE BEST MEDICINE
A catechist was discussing The Ten Commandments with her six-year-olds. After explaining the commandment to “Honor thy father and thy mother,” she asked, “Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?” Without missing a beat, one little boy answered, “Thou shall not kill.”
