Father has posted each week that our goal is $10,000. We seem to be so very close each week, but cannot change the weekly number unless we all reconsider what we donate to our church. Please know that he personally joins us each week in making a donation to our church and has made the commitment of donating 25% more each week this year. He invites you to join him in this commitment if you are able! Thank you!
We thank you and continue to depend upon your generosity and kindness in bringing food to church each and every week.
Our food pantry serves 250 registered families. We want you to know that all those who come to Saint Mother Teresa Food Pantry are so grateful and appreciative of what Saint Joseph Church does for them. If you are not able to go shopping and would like to make a donation to the Food Pantry, we will do the shopping for you. You can put your donation in the boxes marked “Caring Group” at each entrance of the church. Please know that your kindness makes such a difference to those who deal with very difficult life situations. Our pantry is so blessed because of all the Parishioners at Saint Joseph Church. Thank you again for your continued support!

This year, the parish is offering Matthew Kelly’s new book Perfectly Yourself for your Lenten reading pleasure. If you would like to make a
donation to defray the cost of shipping, there is a basket at the entrance of the church. The book is also available at the Parish Center Office during the week.
Hope you enjoy the read!

We are preparing the new schedules for March, April and May for Eucharist Ministers,
Readers and Altar Servers.
Please call or email the Parish Office before noon on Friday, February 9th with any changes or days that you
are not available during these months. This does not include the Vigil or Easter.
There will be a special sign-up sheet for them.
Please remember to make sure your assignment is covered when you are unavailable.
I know that you have heard about our plans to utilize our former Saint Joseph Regional School building across the street from the church. Unfortunately, this past year one of our benefactors backed out on his commitment to fund this new ministry. Therefore, it has delayed our official opening. As you may know, we here at Saint Joseph Church take seriously the call of the Lord Jesus to feed the poor, to clothe the naked and now we are venturing into our newest ministry of caring for the elderly. It is in this new venture that we need your assistance. It is our vision that we will not only create this much needed ministry in our parish and in Sussex County (as to date there are no other adult day care centers in the county) but also, utilize more fully the empty school building which will provide income and allow us to complete the much needed projects through our properties. Please be assured that Faith Formation will continue to utilize the school classrooms and our parish will still continue to use the Community Center whenever needed. At this time, I am asking forty (40) families to donate one thousand dollars ($1,000) which is what we will need to start the Guardian Angel Care Center here in Newton. Once we open our doors to the public, we will only need seventeen (17) clients in order to balance our books. Of course, if you are not able to make this amount individually, you are welcome to join other families or friends in being part of this much needed and valuable asset in our parish and in the county.
The Guardian Angel Care Center will be a 501(3)c Corporation which will be distinct from the Corporation of Saint Joseph Church and as such, we will eventually be able to secure outside and possibly state, county and federal funding. Because of this type of non-profit corporation, your donation will be tax deductible. We are also working on local companies that will match your donations to the day care center. I personally invite you to come and be part of something new, something important, something worthwhile! And of course, I would never ask you to do something I would not do, I am personally pledging $1,000 to this project and invite those who are able to do the same.
(There will be no confessions on Monday evening March 25th)
Days of Abstinence: No meat m ay be eaten on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays in Lent and Good Friday for all those who are 14 years or older. (This does not end at age 60). Days of Fast: A limit of one full meatless meal on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday (for all who are 18-60 years old). Weekdays of Lent: There is no obligation to fast. However, voluntary acts of self-denial are always a great way to be more involved during Lent. Easter Duty Obligation: Every Catholic must receive Holy Communion and go to confession between the First Sunday in Lent and Trinity Sunday. Acts of Devotion: are encouraged on a voluntary basis. These may include spiritual study, Lenten Devotions, the Rosary, Stations of the Cross and deeds of mercy and kindness. Of course, the greatest prayer and to receive the greatest fruits of the Lenten season is by participating in daily and Sunday Masses. Eucharistic Fast: You should fast one hour from foods and liquids. (Water and medicine are exceptions to this fast).
All are invited to participate in the Rice Bowl Program during the Lenten Season again this year. They will be made available for you at the entrance of the church.
Each student in our Faith Formation Program is asked to please participate in this program. Together we can pray, fast and give to Catholic Relief Services in solidarity with needy families throughout the world. This program helps those in need across the world and also 25% of our donations helps food pantries in the Diocese of Paterson.

This Lent, Bishop Serratelli invites you to deepen your
reverence for God’s profound love and give you a new
perspective on sacrifice and renewal by reading his
new book From the Cross to the Empty Tomb.
The bishop invites you to journey with those who
were with Jesus in His last hours. You may be like
Peter or Judas one day and like Simon, Mary
Magdalene, or Our Blessed Mother on another.
This Lenten book provides a deeper appreciation for
God’s eternal saving love.

CATHOLIC ACADEMY
Since we are in the midst of the cold and flu season, a reminder that if you have a cold or any flu like symptoms please refrain from receiving from the chalice. Remember when we receive
the Sacred Host alone, we are still receiving the full and complete Body, Soul and Divinity of Christ. Also, if you are not feeling your best, at the sign of peace please use an alternate form of greeting besides a handshake to protect the others in our community.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
“How many of you say:
I should like to see the Lord’s face,
His garments, His shoes.
You do see Him, you touch Him,
you eat Him. He gives Himself to you,
not only that you may see Him, but also
to be your food and nourishment.” -Saint John Chrysostom
How many of us forget that the Blessed Sacrament is
truly Jesus Himself? How often do we attend Mass as
though the Eucharist were merely a symbol? And if
we know He is there, why is it that we only experience
interior dryness or apathy in His presence?
If you yearn to deepen your faith in the Real Presence,
and discover a new awe for this most wonderful of
mysteries… ...there is no better way to begin than by
learning how Jesus has revealed His true presence in
the Eucharist in your own life by being present with
the Lord. Have you ever thought about coming to
Adoration and Benediction on the First Friday of the
month? Do you come to Mass regularly and truly
participate in the holy sacrifice of the Mass by
preparing yourself for this wonderful and grace-filled
event?
Over and over, God has chosen to humble Himself
even further by teaching us that He really is there in
the consecrated bread and wine. Miracles abound.
Holy men and women have survived on the reception
of Holy Communion alone. He is present. Won't you
give him a chance to fill your life with His grace and
True Presence?
