The Altar Flowers that will be offered at our Eucharistic
Celebrations for this week are in memory of Ed Damiani. This is a
gift from his family.
In this Sunday’s Gospel the Lord tells the people the parable
about the sower and his seed. It would have been easy for them to
understand these parables in those days since they were an
agricultural society. Now days, even for farmers it would be
difficult. Now we have machines that lay the seed in the disked and
plowed ground in precise numbers and at a precise distance from
each other and multiple rows at a time. In those days the plowing
was not as precise, using a team of oxen and a primitive plow. The
farmer would sow the seed by scattering them by hand over the
plowed earth. With experience, I’m sure he or she would have gotten
good at it. Still there are some seeds which would have fallen
outside the plowed area onto the stony sides or the pathway
surrounding the field. The chances of those seeds to flourish are
diminished, not impossible, but diminished. Even if they did escape
the birds and the sandals of the passersby or the poor rocky soil,
their fruitfulness would likewise be diminished. What does Jesus
want for us? He wants us to flourish, to be as fruitful as we can
be in our state of life. He shows us how to accomplish this in
Sacred Scripture and in the teachings of the Church. How we accept
his word and how it takes root in our hearts is the important
thing, so we can bear fruit abundantly. We have to prepare
ourselves through prayer and the sacraments. You may say that the
Word of God prepares the soil of our heart. It is disked and plowed
to accept the Word. But if our heart is like the pathway where
everybody walks and it is hardened, it may be by society and it’s
crazy ideas walking all over it. The Word will be taken by the Evil
One like the birds of the field and it will never take root. Or if
the heart is stony hard and the Word cannot enter, then we are in
trouble. Let him and her who have ears to hear, hear! Who have eyes
to see, read! Hearts that are open, accept the Word of God!
The Bread and Wine that are being offered at our Eucharistic
Celebration this week are in loving memory of John Klosek. This is
a gift from Mary Burk.

ella seria bastante eficiente.
Dios!

Last Tuesday we hosted the wake and holy Mass for our former
pastor, Fr, Kevin Duggan, who died July 6, aged 63 years. His good
friend Fr. Dennis Weezorak was the principal celebrant, Msgr John
Szymanski was the homilist and Bishop James Checchio presided.
After I announced the death of Fr Kevin at all the Masses last
Sunday I could see the tears and looks of disbelief. Afterwards
many told me of how he had comforted them in their loss, what kinds
words he had for them or how they got more involved in the faith
and in the parish at his urging. Fr Duggan prepared himself to
continue to be of service to the people of God, finishing a
Master’s
degree in counseling. I was told that his classmates gave him an
ovation at his graduation. A testament to his helping others and
caring attitude. Interment will be in West Roxbury, Mass. with his
deceased family members. The following is an excerpt from his
obituary. Rev. Kevin Paul Duggan, 63, of Toms River, died suddenly
on Thursday July 6, 2017 at home. Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts
he has lived in New Jersey since 1985. He was ordained a Roman
Catholic priest in St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, Metuchen on May
30, 1987 by Most Reverend Edward T. Hughes. Fr. Duggan attended
Quincy Public Schools and graduated from Archbishop Williams High
School in Braintree, Massachusetts in 1972, where he was chosen by
his peers as “Mr. AWHS”. After graduation from High School he
attended St. John’s College of Liberal Arts, receiving a Bachelors
Degree in Philosophy and History in 1976. He then worked within the
successful Massachusetts gubernatorial campaign of Edward J. King
and worked in state government before returning to St. John’s
Seminary, ultimately obtaining a Masters of Divinity Degree. After
ordination Fr. Duggan served as Associate Pastor at St. Thomas the
Apostle Church, Old Bridge, Pastor of Corpus Christi Church, South
River, weekend assistant at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy and
Pastor of St. James the Less Church, Jamesburg. He recently
obtained a Masters Degree in Counseling from The College of New
Jersey, Ewing and passed the National Certification Exam.
Mass & Healing Service Our Lady of Victories Parish,
Sayreville, will hold a Mass and healing service on Monday, July
31st at 7:00 pm. The
celebrant will be Fr. John Campoli, Director of His Love
Ministries. Individual healing prayers will be given following
Mass. All
are welcome to attend. For more information, call Marilyn at
