SACRAMENTS TODAY:
Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary TimeJune 12, 2016
O Lord, hear my voice!
FOR THE RIDE HOME First Reading: 2 Sm 12:7-10 Second Reading: Gal 2: 16, 19-21 Gospel: Lk 7:36– 8:3 The gospel reading tells the beautiful story of Jesus' response to the sinful woman. In her love for Jesus, she disregards the usual way guests are treated at a banquet. She bathes Jesus' feet first with her tears, then with precious ointment, and wipes them with her hair. Simon, the host of the banquet, shows Jesus none of the usual courtesies when he arrives. Moreover he condemns Jesus for associating with the woman who was a known sinner. In telling Simon a story about forgiving debts, Jesus praises the woman. She is forgiven much because of her great love. Jesus points out Simon's need for forgiveness—because of his lack of hospitality, his lack of respect for each of them, and his self-righteousness. The story is a powerful example of the relationship between forgiveness and love. How do we treat one another? Do we treat friends—and
strangers—as if we are all equal? Or do we allow skin
color, gender, cultural, economic, or even petty
differences stand in the way. Do we sometimes
discriminate because someone is different? What if God
acted that way toward us?

“Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instills in us the courage to look to the future with hope” - Pope Francis
**One Faith, Family and Community is the theme around which we are sharing the inspiring story of the Catholic Ministries Appeal. **As One Faith Family, we are called as a community to show mercy to others as Pope Francis has asked us to do in this extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. **Supporting the Catholic Ministries Appeal gives each of us a remarkable opportunity to “show mercy to others” and touch the lives of so many who are in our family of faith and in our community—a neighbor in need of food or shelter, a young man or woman finding their way to God through our youth or campus ministry programs, or a deacon or seminarian studying to serve in our Diocese.
Did you know because of the Catholic Ministries Appeal last
year….
We delivered or served more than 550,000 meals to senior
citizens and young families.
Parish outreach centers, including our food pantries, assisted
more than 100,000 families.
Our Office of Hospital Ministry served more than 300,000
people in local hospitals.
12,000 volunteer Catechists taught Religious Education to
more than 110,000 of our children in public schools.
In our 133 Parishes there were more than 17,000 Baptisms,
17,000 First Communions, 19,000 Confirmations and 3,000
Weddings.
We provided safe and affordable housing for struggling
seniors through 15 housing facilities with more than 1,200
affordable apartments.
Our parish received a cash rebate of more than $10,000
which helped to offset expenses needed to maintain our
building and to fund the many programs we offer. Please consider making a pledge to this most worthy charity.
We need the help of every parish family to reach our goal of
$50,800. You have until January 31, 2017 to pay off your pledge.
No down payment is necessary. The Diocese will send monthly
reminders. Keep in mind this is not a legal document. If you feel
you cannot keep up your payments, simply discontinue them.
To help you decide here are some suggested gift plans:
**$100 pledge—$10 per month, ** $50 pledge—$5 per month
**One time payment = $20.00
Whatever you are able to give, large or small, will be accepted
gratefully. Please keep in mind your gift is payable over ten
months.
To make a pledge, simply fill out the form below and place it in
the collection basket or mail it back to the parish office.
