additional volunteers to fill out the teams for an easier
workload. This involves setting up, minimal food prepa-
ration (no real cooking), serving the food, and cleanup.
PLEASE search your hearts and see if God might be
asking you to help out on an occasional basis. Call the
OLGC rectory or email Terri at outreach-
olgc.stny.rr.com.
Showers of Hope: If you are interested in helping out with
Showers of Hope, St. Patrick's in Binghamton will continue
to supply showers throughout the winter on Thursdays 11:30
am-1:30 pm. Contact Barb at 722-1060 at St Patricks Church
if interest in volunteering.
Thanksgiving & Christmas Baskets: I would like to thank
everyone who volunteered to help as well as donated food
items or money for the Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets.
We served 140 families for each holiday. I can ensure you
that every recipient was very grateful and appreciative of your
generosity and expressed it when picking up their baskets.
You are truly an amazing and generous parish. ~ Karen
OLGC Outreach Thank you: I am sincerely humbled by
the outpouring of generosity within our church communi-
ty. Any need requested of you this past year was met and
often exceeded expectations. You always gave abundantly
often without seeing the fruits of your labor. I can ensure
you that those receiving your donations were very grateful
and were often brought to tears by the relief they felt
when their needs were being met. It is not easy asking for
help even when you really need it. You gave hope and joy
to many community members this year and it is truly ap-
preciated. I would also like to thank everyone who volun-
teered throughout the year to make our outreach opportu-
nities successful. Your time and talents are appreciated
and we could not do all that we do without you.
~Sincerely Karen Babicek

Our Sunday Bulletin is the primary way we
communicate with our parish members.
Through arrangement with Liturgical Publica-
tions, the parish does not pay for the bulletin
printing, which saves us thousands of dollars each year.
Our bulletin is supported through the generosity of the ad-
vertisers, many of whom are our own parish members or
members of the local community. We urge you to support
our advertisers with your patronage. Tell the business own-
er that you appreciate their support of our parish through
their advertising in our bulletin. This is one way we can
work to create a vibrant community. A strong, engaged
parish is good for our community and a strong business
community is good for our parish.

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph
The Holy Family is the name given to
the family unit of Jesus: The Divine Son of
God Jesus, his mother Mary, and his foster-
father Joseph. We know very little about the
life of the Holy Family through the Canoni-
cal Scriptures. They speak of the early years
of the Holy Family, including the birth of Jesus in Bethle-
hem, the flight into Egypt, and the finding of Jesus in the
temple.
The Holy Family feast is a good time to
remember the family unit and pray for our human and spir-
itual families. We also may take this feast to reflect on the
value and sanctity of the family unit, and to evaluate our
own family life. What ways may it be improved? What
would Jesus, Mary, and Joseph do? Finally, we can use this
feast to ask ourselves what are we doing to promote the
family within our own cultures, neighborhoods, and com-
munities.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from
the Office of Family Life Education (A
Hope Appeal Agency)
Today’s gospel contains this truth about par-
enting: “but his parents did not know.” One of the reasons
parenting is so difficult is because our children don’t tell us
everything. If the Holy Family had trouble with their teenag-
er, why do we think it will be easier for us?
