    Descaling

Descaling is necessary to remove limescale from allsurfaces and holes, thus ensuring a perfect operationof valves, heating controls and other important parts.

Note: due to the complexity of the coffee machinehydraulic circuit, the following descaling cycles(automatic and standard) do not allow the descalingof all tubes.

In fact, easily accessible components such as thecentral unit (22) and its plastic connection areexcluded.

The machine must be descaled every 3-4 months, according to the water hardness degree. A morefrequent descaling is recommended wherever thewater hardness degree is very high.

This machine is supplied with a particular warning light

    23 DESCALING

Descaling must be carried out at the latest when thismessage is displayed. In spite of the message, themachine does not stop working.Furthermore, said display warning may be adjustedaccording to the water hardness degree. The ma-

chine has been adjusted at the factory to 25

fHvalue, which causes the display to switch on showingthe message descaling after approx 150 l.The water hardness value may be changed, ifnecessary, following the instructions shown on page37.

The following adjustments are possible:Hardness 4: high water hardness, over 29fH (14dH), approx. 80 l water passage.

Hardness 3: medium water hardness, approx. 20-29fH (7-14 dH), approx. 150 l water passage

Hardness 2: soft water, approx. 12-20fH (4-7dH), approx. 300 l water passageHardness 1: less than 10fH (3 dH), approx. 500l water passageIn case of hard water, a filter should be used both toimprove the coffee quality and to protect the ma-chine, thus reducing the descaling frequency.

Note: for this purpose, use a descaling productsuitable for coffee machines. Never use vinegar toclean the machine; it might damage it.

There are two ways to carry out the descaling of themachine:

Automatic descalingSet the machine on the programming mode (see

    page 3).

Move the asterisk to the menu item Descaling usingthe keys and press MENU to activate it.The display shows:

    "DESCALING "

Pour a descaling solution into the water tank (accord-

ing to the instructions on the package). Place a largecontainer under the steam/hot water dispensingtube and open the steam/hot water knob slowly. The

automatic descaling starts. Small quantities ofdescaling solution are pumped into the circuit. Thenthe pump stops to let the solution take effect. The display shows:

    "MACHINE IS ""DESCALING "

This operation takes about 45 minutes. As soon asdescaling is completed, the display shows:

    "DECALING ""FINISHED "

and the pump stops.Turn the hot water off. Press the MENU' key. Thedisplay shows that the machine needs to be rinsed toclean any descaling remains.

    "RINSE MACHINE ""FILL WATERTANK "

Remove the water tank, rinse it and fill it with water.Clean the machine using the hot water knob and let

the whole tank content flow out. The display shows:

    "RINSING ""FINISHED "

Turn the hot water off. Press the MENU' key. Themachine is now in the programming mode. Press theESC key. The machine is now in the normal mode. After being heated, the machine will be ready forcoffee dispensing.

N.B. The descaling process can be interrupted atany time using the MENU' key. Before that, how-ever, turn the hot water valve off.

Standard descalingSwitch off the machine. Pour a descaling pro-duct into the water tank (according to the instructionson the package). Place a large container under thesteam/hot water dispensing tube (7) and open thesteam/hot water knob (9) slowly, turning it

counterclockwise. Turn on the machine by pressingthe main switch and let the descaling product flowout of the dispensing tube for approx. 1 min.Turn off the machine with the main switch and let thesolution take effect for approx. 5 minutes. Repeat this

procedure two or three times, to allow all thedescaling product in the water tank to flow out of thedispensing tube. As soon as decalcification hasbeen carried out, rinse the water tank (11) thoroughlyand fill it with water.Switch on the machine again and let water (approx.2 l) flow out of the steam/hot water dispensing tubein order to rinse away residue. The coffee machine is now ready for operation.

ImportantA periodic descaling avoids expensive repairs. Themachine warranty does not cover damages occur-ring as a result of the non-observance of descalingprocedures, improper use and any other instructionscontained herein. Maintain the manufacturers ad-justment if the water hardness degree is not known.

    Storage of the machine

Switch off and unplug the machine if it will not beused for long periods of time.

Keep the machine in a dry place, far from the reachof children.Should the machine not be used for a long period, keep it from dust and dirty.
