Once again I wish to say that this year our Jubilee Parish Fair was an incredible success! I extend our sincerest thanks to all of our parish-ioners for your prayers, volunteer work, assistance with set-up, break-down and contributions/donations to our games of chance. Our dedicated and wonderful Fair Committee truly brings the sense of community that we all know and love here at Sacred Heart during this beloved event every July. I thank all of them for their tireless efforts and hard work, especially during this past week. May God bless you! With my prayers, Fr. Gorka

This young customer was just texting his friends to let them know what a super fun time he had at the Sacred

Heart Fair. Below is a little peek into what happened. Bigger spread of pics coming next weekend. Gosh, this was one event we’ll never forget! Congratulations Sacred Heart Volunteers on your 25 years of success!

“President Trump on Wednesday [June 20] walked back his policy of separating immigrant children from their parents at the border that had united most of America in opposition . . . In classic Trumpian fashion, the President took credit for reversing a policy he previously said he couldn’t reverse . . . But this was a problem of his own creation, and ‘zero tolerance’ is part of it.” — Wall Street Journal, lead editorial, June 21

By Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. • Posted July 9, 2018 We live in a world obsessed with identity. Everywhere we turn, someone is talking about “self-expression,” “self-identifying,” or “finding yourself.” And rightfully so, because the answer to the question “who am I?” is one of the biggest questions that we as human

beings have to grapple with. It has profound implications for what we do with our lives, why we should be treated with dignity, why and how we will be in relationship, and ultimately, why we should be loved. On this point, the Church and the world agree. The question of identity is central to the human experience. The problem is that in our modern world we tend to build our identity on unreliable foundations. Often, we tend to identify ourselves not by who we are, but instead by what we do (e.g. “I am a teacher”), or what we desire (e.g. “I am gay”), or the group we belong to (e.g. “I am a Republican”).

However, these ways of identifying ourselves never fully satisfy because they’re based on things that are ultimately passing. Jobs can be lost, desires ebb and flow, and groups fall apart. When we rest our identity on things that don’t last, we risk the despair and confusion that result when they inevitably pass away. We must, then, find our identity in a deeper place.

The famous passage from the Second Vatican Council that was found in virtually every writing of Pope St. John Paul II can help us here: “In reality it is only in the mystery of the Word made flesh that the mystery of man truly becomes clear … Christ the new Adam, in the very revelation of the mystery of the Father and of his love, fully reveals man to himself and brings to light his most high calling” (GS, 22). In other words, the response to the deepest human question “who am I?” is found in the person of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Christ establishes and reveals to us the first and most fundamental identity of every human being: You are a son or a daughter of the Most High God.

The question of identity is at the center of the 2018 Catholic Women’s Conference this October. In choos-ing the theme “Daughters of the King,” the organizers have made a wise move. In a culture where the question of identity is everywhere, they’re inviting women to discover and embrace the one unshakable, permanent and lasting identity that they’ve been given from God: You are a daughter of the King of Heaven and Earth.

A woman’s daughterhood in God is not a pious imagining, a nice name that a woman gives herself in order to feel special. The identity daughter of God is the most fundamental truth about every woman. It’s the ground of her existence, the source of her beauty, the assurance of her lovability, and the unmovable anchor of her dignity. No matter what circumstances shift and change in her life, a woman’s daughterhood before God, and therefore the fact of her being infinitely loved, never change. (The same holds true for men in their sonship before God the Father.)

I invite and warmly encourage women of the Archdiocese to come to the women’s conference this year to encounter and claim your identity as a daughter of the King. I assure you that when this becomes the foundation of your life, the fruits will be tremendous. *** The 2018 Catholic Women’s Conference “Daughters of the King” takes place on Saturday, October 27, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, Pa. The conference is expected to sell out in mid-September. More information and registration can be found at catholicwomensconference.org.

Blessing of Grandparents

Thursday, July 26, is the feast day of Saints Joachim and Ann, parents of the Blessed Mother,

grandparents to Jesus.

Saint Joachim’s and Saint Ann’s trust in God gave them the strength and

perseverance necessary to be model parents and grandparents. Their lives are an example for all of

us.

During each Mass on Saturday and Sunday, July 28th and 29th

a special blessing will be given to grandparents, in honor and support of their role as

models, mentors, and historians to those grandchildren they seek to love and

nurture as their new generation.

We are excited to announce that Sacred Heart will be starting a

year-long daily lottery calendar for 2019. You purchase a

numbered ticket and that is your number for the year. If

your number is drawn by the PA Lottery nightly drawing any

time during 2019 you win the prize for the day. Prizes range from $30-$125. The cost of a

ticket is $25.00. Tickets can be purchased at the Café after Mass or you can email Bill Petaccio at

[email protected]. Have a special number you want to pick, better order it early. We will try to

honor all requests on a first-come, first-served basis. These make great gifts.

We are also looking for people to volunteer to be

sellers. Take 10 tickets and sell them to your family and friends.

Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play.

Hope you sign up soon!

“Helping Everyone Always Remain Together”

Proclaim the Beauty and Goodness of Marriage with Humanum!

Nothing is more natural and innate than our awareness of the beauty and "fittingness" of the permanent, lifelong

relationship of man and woman in marriage. And yet, our society seems to have forgotten its memory and some are attempting to eradicate our most basic instincts about marriage. The Humanum videos are a series of six 15-minute videos capturing the splendor of the complementarity of man and wom-an and the marriage relationship. It is designed to present the truth by means of beauty, the kind of beauty that resonates deep within the heart and "unlocks" our memory of the truth. The great news is that these videos are available for viewing for free and can be easily shared with others. Find Hu-manum at the link below and share them with oth-ers as a way to start a meaningful, memory-jogging conversation! http://www.eccefilms.com/humanum/
