Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fifth Sunday of Lent–March 18, 2018 Reflection from the Pastor: This Monday, March 19 th , is the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I thought I would use this space to offer a brief reflection on St. Joseph. Devotion to St. Joseph is found in the Gospels, where he is called a “just man”, high praise for the one God specially chose to be the foster-father of Jesus. St. Joseph has a unique fatherhood among all men, because although he was not involved in the conception of Jesus (since he was conceived by the Holy Spirit), he is involved in the birth of Our Lord and is publically known as the father of Jesus. This was God’s express will, because God gave to St. Joseph the honor of naming Jesus. Think about that for a moment: St. Joseph was the first man to announce to the world the holy name of Jesus! St. Joseph is called the universal patron of the Church, because he continues to exercise his unique fatherhood by praying for the members of the Body of Christ. We can and should entrust St. Joseph with our prayers, because just as he loved his child Jesus, he loves us, the members of his Son’s Body. Saint Joseph is our patron and protector because he provided for the Holy Family. We are members of Jesus’ family, too, and so we humbly ask St. Joseph to provide the money that our parish needs to continue to do Jesus’ work. Fr. Reflection from the Pastor: This Monday, March 19th, is the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Spouse of the
Blessed Virgin Mary. I thought I would use this space to offer a brief
reflection on St. Joseph. Devotion to St. Joseph is
found in the Gospels, where he is called a “just
man”, high praise for the one God specially chose to
be the foster-father of Jesus. St. Joseph has a unique
fatherhood among all men, because although he was
not involved in the conception of Jesus (since he was
conceived by the Holy Spirit), he is involved in the
birth of Our Lord and is publically known as the
father of Jesus. This was God’s express will, because God gave to St. Joseph
the honor of naming Jesus. Think about that for a moment: St. Joseph was
the first man to announce to the world the holy name of Jesus! St. Joseph is
called the universal patron of the Church, because he continues to exercise his
unique fatherhood by praying for the members of the Body of Christ. We can
and should entrust St. Joseph with our prayers, because just as he loved his
child Jesus, he loves us, the members of his Son’s Body. Saint Joseph is our
patron and protector because he provided for the
Holy Family. We are members of Jesus’ family,
