Volunteers Needed Do you have a little extra time in your day or over the week-end to shovel a neighbors walk? When you shovel your driveway, can you allow a little extra time to shovel another

driveway down the street? If you are able to make this sacrifice, please volunteer with St. Isidore's Helpers. We will match you with someone who needs help, so that they are not trapped inside their home this winter.

We don't need any money, only a bit of your time. We cur-rently have 3 unmatched clients and your help will make a difference in someone's life. To volunteer, please email Nyrma Soffel at [email protected] or call at 307.251.6232.

to fulfill both these needs during Eucharistic Adoration. We are currently in need of filling the following hours of Eucharis-tic Adoration:

Monday 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

LOCAL OUTREACH Are you looking for a way to reach out to those in your community or would like to share your treasures with those less fortunate? Holy Cross Food Bank is looking for chil-dren’s slightly used or new books. When families come to receive food items the children love to re-ceive books. Please bring your books and place them in the Christmas wrapped box at the east (main) entrance of the Church. This will be availa-ble the weekends of December and 17th. What a GREAT way to share the Christmas spirit with a local child.

All you need to do is call Chris & Julie Perry at 265-9388 and pick a time slot running at 15 minute intervals beginning at 9:45 a.m. and ending at 11:15

a.m. There are 35 slots and they fill very quickly so don ’t wait! Meals on Wheels requires a copy of your Driver’s Li-cense and proof of insurance. They are happy to make copies there before you leave for your route Christmas Day. Thanks for your generosity!!! Call us if you have any questions.

The Obedience of Faith Sunday Readings: Isa 7:10-14; Rom 1:1-7; Matt 1:18-24

Reflection: What a grace it is to be clear about one’s mission. St. Paul’s clarity about his being chosen “to bring about the obedience of faith” and to know the people to whom he was sent to achieve this work is truly a blessing. Many of us never achieve that certitude and, because of the lack of clarity, precious energy is lost. It wasn’t always that obvious to Paul what his mission in life was. His initial mistake in persecuting the early Christian community would find him cast to the ground and experiencing blindness. We know the story; we know how Jesus broke into Paul’s life and graced him with an apostleship that helped shaped the Christian world. It was about faith in Christ; it was all about being obedient to the Spirit of the risen Christ. Like Paul, Joseph was a man of faith and obedience. Though Joseph did not comprehend all that had happened to Mary, he did believe the message of the angel and then, in supreme obedience, did what was asked of him. The obedience of faith is at the heart of discipleship as is witnessed in Mary, Joseph, and Paul, as is manifest in the lives of all saints. There is no room for romanticism when it comes to faith or obedience. The Southern Catholic writer Flannery O’Connor, detesting sentimental-ity, asserts that faith is about the cross and is not one big electric blanket. Though Bethlehem is close at hand, there is always the shadow of the cross that we have to deal with. Faith is costly and Joseph, Mary, and Paul paid the price, the giving of their wills over to God’s design. \ We all look for assurance and a sign would be very helpful to firm up our belief. Blind faith, like blind obedience, demands extreme trust in God’s providential care. May we be granted that confidence in this Ad-vent season and throughout our lives. Meditation: What do you understand by the phrase ‘the obedience of faith”? Who are the people in your life who have demonstrated radical faith and joyful obedience? Which of the components of faith—conviction, confidence, commitment—is most difficult for you? Reverend Robert Harren, J.C.L.
