Fold and press the skirts top edge to the wrong side to form the casing: 1/2 and then another 1. Stitch close to the inside fold, leaving a 2 opening. 17. Edgestitch all the way around the top of the casing, about 1/8 from the top edge. This will help prevent the elastic from twisting later. 18. Cut a piece of 3/4 elastic equal to the measurement around the waist. Insert elastic through opening in the casing, using a safety pin. 19. Overlap the ends by about 1 and hold with a safety pin. Try on the skirt and adjust the elastic to t comfortably. You may need to adjust quite a bit, depending on the elasticity of the elastic. 8. 2013 Angela Bowman For personal use only Page 8 of 8 A AngelaB.me 20. Stitch the ends of the elastic together. Sewing a rectangle shape will keep it secure. 21. Stitch the opening closed. Distribute the fullness evenly. Youre done! Add modesty shorts! Consider sewing modesty shorts into the skirt, rather than making an elastic waistband. Instead of following steps 16-21, see: How to Sew Modesty Shorts into a Skirt . Link up your project online!
