NOT A GREAT DAD’S DAY AT ‘THE K’ --The good news is that the Royals hit Seattle after a 5-2 week,

but yesterday’s nale took some of the shine off an overall solid week as the Red Sox pounded out a 13-2

Father’s Day decision...Kansas City entered the weekend series vs. Boston sweeping a 4-game home &

home series from Milwaukee, but the BoSox exed their way to a pair of wins capped by a 16-hit attack on

Sunday, 13 of which went for extra bases, a record vs. KC...the rst nine Boston hits yesterday were of the

extra-base variety with six doubles and three home runs before David Ortiz drove in the BoSox 10th runwith their rst single of the afternoon...Chris Young was the roughed up starter, falling to 6-3 by allowing

seven runs on seven hits (all for extra bases) with three walks in 4.2 innings...the Kansas City offense

was kept off the board until Lorenzo Cain’s 2-out, 2-run triple in the ninth...despite the one-sided defeat

on Sunday, the Royals managed to extend their division lead during the week, opening in Milwaukee last

Monday with a 2 1/2-game advantage, but thanks to a Minnesota loss yesterday, KC starts this trip 3 1/2

games ahead and the only A.L. club at least 12 games over .500 with a league-best winning pct. of .591.

OVER 2,000,000 SOLD--The question of when the Royals will once again draw two million fans was answered this morning when single game ticket sales reached

2,013,500 for the season...this will mark the rst time since 1991 when Kansas City drew 2,161,537 through the gates at Kauffman Stadium and the 12th time to

break 2,000,000 in team history...the Royals eclipsed the 1,000,000 mark in season attendance last Wednesday night in the 31st home date of the year, the fastest the

franchise has ever drawn seven gures, blowing past the previous quickest of 34 dates in both 1986 and ‘87...Kansas City is averaging 32,934 per game, which is an

improvement of 11,320 compared to 35 dates last year...with 46 home dates remaining, the current per game average factors out to just over 2.66 million over a full

season, which would shatter the team record of 2,477,700 set in 1989...the Royals have already played in front of 11 sellout crowds at ‘The K’ this year.

ROSTER MOVE --The Royals today recalled righthanded pitcher Michael Mariot from Omaha (AAA) and optioned Aaron Brooks to the Storm Chasers...Mariot, 26,

going 1-1 with a team best ve saves and a 3.18 ERA, fanning 33 hitters in 28.1 innings...Brooks worked 3.1 innings of relief yesterday in the loss at home to Boston.

DOUBLE-DIGIT HIT STREAK HALTED--A side note to yesterday’s 13-2 thumping by the BoSox was that the Royals were held to just nine hits in the contest,

snapping a streak of six consecutive games in which the Royals collected at least 10 hits...the high-water mark during the streak was a 17-hit outburst last Tuesday in

a 7-2 win at Milwaukee...despite the 9-hit affair on Sunday, Kansas City has batted .344 (85-for-247) in its last seven games while plating 40 runs, averaging 5.7 per

game...this 7-game stretch came on the heels of KC’s offensive low-point of the year, going 6-11 in a 17-game span in which the club scored only 41 runs (2.4 per

game) while hitting only .205 (115-for-560).

GO WEST YOUNG MEN --Tonight kicks off a 9-game journey through 60% of the A.L. West, with three here, followed by 3-game stops in Oakland and Houston...

the Royals have gone 8-5 vs. the West to this point...yesterday’s loss dropped KC to 3-6 vs. the East, facing only the Yankees and Red Sox to this point...Kansas City

will resume play vs. the East during its next homestand when Tampa Bay (4) and Toronto (3) visit Kauffman Stadium...the Royals are also 19-12 within their own

for the #2 spot on June 8 in Minnesota...already the all-time leader in games managed in Kansas City with 841, this is Ned’s second stint as a big league manager after

nearly six years at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers (2003-2008), compiling a 457-502 record with the Brew Crew including a 166-146 mark in his last two seasons.

NEAR THE TOP IN BRUISES --The Royals are third in the American League with 34 hit by pitches, trailing only Texas (39) and Tampa Bay (35)...Kansas City was

tested early this year by getting plunked 26 times in the rst 33 games, but most recently had only been hit three times in 21 games prior to getting popped three times

in the Boston series...Alex Gordon, who was hit on Friday, continues lead the A.L. with 11 HBP’s

A TRIO OF SECOND HALF MAKEUPS --The Royals have added three games to the second half of the season due to inclement weather this summer...the most

recent rainout on June 14 in St. Louis will be made up on Thursday, July 23, while the Royals are in the middle of a 6-game homestand...rst pitch is slated for 6:15 in

Busch Stadium, as Kansas City will y across the state after its regularly scheduled July 22 night game against the Pirates in Kauffman Stadium and then return home

to resume the stay with a 3-game visit from the Houston Astros...KC also has a pair of make-up dates slated for Chicago later this year, with an April 25 contest lost to

Mother Nature against the White Sox (make-up slated for a split doubleheader on July 17) and a May 30 encounter on the North Side vs. the Cubs (make-up slated for

September 28).

FOUR WOULDN’T HAVE MATTERED--The Royals needed many more than the four-run threshold to get them through yesterday’s 13-2 setback, thus keeping KC’s

record at 32-4 when scoring at least four times in a game...dating back to the start of the 2013 season, Kansas City is 165-21 (.887 winning pct.) when stepping on home

plate at least four times...conversely, the club is now 7-22 this year and 27-81 over the last two years when scoring three runs or fewer.

WADING THROUGH THE COMPETITION --Relief ace Wade Davis allowed a hit and fanned a man in his eighth inning duty on Saturday night to set the stage for

Greg Holland’s 13th save of the year...Davis has eight saves of his own this year and has compiled 12 victories since the start of 2014, making him the winningest reliever

in the Major Leagues over the last two seasons...since the dawn of the 2014 season, Wade has a 12-3 record with 11 rescues and a 0.79 ERA (9 earned runs in 102.0

innings)...since June 27 of last year, Wade has been even better, going 7-1 with 11 saves, a 0.53 ERA (4 ER in 68.1 IP), a .155 opponents’ average and 11.59 strikeouts

per 9.0 innings...he has now worked 112.0 consecutive innings without allowing a home run, the longest-active streak in the Major Leagues...Davis’ streak dates back to

August 24, 2013, which was the date of his last start.
