Canisteo ROTARY NEWS Canisteo Rotary recently welcomed two community members into their club by President Jeffrey Matteson and Dick Warriner. They are: Bill Tucker, Mayor Village of Canisteo, and Kellie O’Dell, Businesswoman from Greenwood. Our club is looking forward to working and fellowship with these two fine individuals. Five members of the Canisteo Rotary Club were Guest Readers at the Canisteo Elementary School recently. This event was held in preparation for the visit of author and illustrator David Catrow. The school was hoping to build enthusiasm within the school and encourage reading amongst the elementary students. Each Rotarian read at least two of the author’s books maybe three, depending on if the students would let the reader go because they were having so much fun. The Canisteo Rotarians participating as Guest Readers were: Dr. Jeffrey Matteson, President of the Rotary Club, Anne Corwin, Susan Cosgrove and Stacey Deebs, Bill Tucker, Mayor Village of Canisteo. The Guest Reading event was sponsored by the Canisteo- Greenwood PTO, the Elementary School with cooperation and fun by other various community members. Assemblyman Phil Palmesano was the guest speaker at a recent Canisteo Rotary Club meeting at Somers Hall in Canisteo, NY. Assemblyman Palmesano thanked the Rotary Organizations for all that they do to improve the quality of life for all members of the community in which they serve. When he joined the Assembly he found that formulating the budget was and still is an ongoing and challenging process. Last year the state faced a $10 billion dollar budget deficit. Although he believes progress was made last year, the state continues to face significant fiscal challenges with a $2 billion dollar budget deficit to address this year as they work to adopt a fair and equitable budget for all New Yorkers. Last year’s budget was the first on time in five years and they are working again to meet that goal by the April 1st deadline. Assemblyman Palmesano’s top priorities: (1) Reduce business taxes and costs to spur economic development and job creation. (2) Mandate relief for local governments and school districts to help ease and reduce the property tax burden. (3) Reform the education funding formula to provide for fair and equitable funding for high speed school districts (which is primarily our upstate, rural schools). (4) Maintain fiscal discipline by controlling state spending, reforming Medicaid, consolidating state authorities and commissions and implementing a state spending cap. He favors ìtown meetingsî as a good place to voice concerns, offer solutions and gather information to assist him in better serving his constituents of the 136th Assembly District of NY.

Each Rotarian read at least two of the author’s books maybe

Assemblyman Phil Palmesano was the guest speaker at a recent Canisteo Rotary Club meeting at Somers Hall in Canisteo, NY.

Assemblyman Palmesano thanked the Rotary Organizations for all that they do to improve the quality of life for all members of the community in which they serve.

deficit to address this year as they work to adopt a fair and equitable budget for all New Yorkers. Last year’s budget was the first on time in five years and they are working again to meet that goal by the April 1st deadline.
