1 Rotary Club of Somerton Park Inc. | Chartered 7 April 1988 7 July Our meeting on 7 July will be Michael’s first as Club President so lets have a good attendance. Our speaker for the morning will be our own Rajni Lalsinghani who will be speaking on Bollywood films. From what I have read, the Indian film indus- try is enormous and it produces thousands of mov- ies each year to satisfy the needs of cinemas and television. People who saw the Marigold Hotel films would get the idea of the colour and movement in many In- dian films. 14 July Our meeting on 14 July will be a vocational visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Base at Adelaide Airport. This has been arranged by Malcolm Axford and members are asked to assemble in the Masters Hardware car park off Sir Donald Bradman Drive at 7am. There is a short walk from there to the RFDS facility as a group. Bring money for breakfast after we have finished the tour, Malcolm has suggested breakfast at Sub- way. Please advise Malcolm of your attendance. Firstly to Brenley congratula- tions on being such a good President and it is testimony of your leadership that in your speech at the changeover the club achievements were quite remarkable for a club of 30 volunteers. Well done To all those who helped at the changeover lunch thank you and in particular Pam Maxwell who kept it on track and on time. The day exceeded my expecta- tions (and they were very high) and I was buoyed by the enthusiasm and the positive vibe. It was great to share the day with Alison and part of my family, and I was really pleased that so many partners could also attend because they are such an important part of what we do. The rotary theme this year is “Be a Gift to the World “ and it will no doubt mean something different to all of us I would like to think that we could start to think strate- gically and look beyond the immediate year and make our gift to the world a decision to build a club that could last 20, 50 or even 100 years Surely there could be no greater gift and such a gift would be truly amazing So what would it take to build a club of such strength? A club the envy of all other clubs .A club that stands out as the number 1 choice of any and all individuals considering joining a local service club While I don’t know the answers it obviously involves increasing our club membership and I think it would help if we had a flagship project that could provide a springboard to the future consolidation and growth of our club. I am sure many of the members will have ideas and I look forward to hearing them. Experience has shown me that quite often the final product looks nothing like what the initial idea looked like due to improvements added along the way so we should never be afraid to put forward our thoughts. I will address membership and projects as the year progresses because they are integral parts of build- ing a strong and resourceful club. Thank you to Jim Parkins for coordinating the Taxi BBQ and all those who helped on Wednesday It was a great start the new Rotary Year . Mike
