We began in the summer of 1980, when community leader Jon Lundin, (then RVC’s Director of Continuing Education), established Whiz Kids College. While originally conceived as a summer “college” for students with high academic abilities, Rock Valley College Whiz Kids quickly widened its programming to include any youth with a zest for learning.

Rock Valley College Whiz Kids classes are designed to:• Exploresubjectsmoreindepth• Challengestudentstolearnnewmaterialthroughcriticalandcreativethinking• Offeropportunitiesforstudentstobecomeacquaintedwithotherswhohavesimilar academic interests• Provideasupportiveenvironmentwherestudents“learnbydoing”• Offeravarietyofinstructionalmethodstostimulateandchallengestudents

Students have fun using their imaginations, perfecting their talents, and gaining confidence inacademicareas.ParentslikeRockValleyCollegeWhizKidsbecauseitprovidesapositiveandstimulatingenvironmentfortheirchildren.Welikeitbecauseweenjoythekidsandloveto see learning in action!

SPECIALNEEDS:TheCollegeiscommittedtoprovidinganaccessibleandsupportivelearningenvironmentfor all Whiz Kids students. To help us meet this goal, at least three weeks in advance of the beginning of a Whiz Kids class or Eagle Academic Camp, call the RVC Community & Continuing Education office at (815) 921-3900. Notification of any disabilities or conditions requiring special accommodations or attention will allow the College to determine reasonable accommodations which can be made. For adult students, call the RVC Disability Support Services Office at (815) 921-2356. Office Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm.

CHEF DIANA KRAmER, founder of TASTy TIDBITS graduated from the Culinary Business Academy, is a Certified PersonalChef, PremierMemberof the United States PersonalChef Association, has ServSafe Certification and is a Regis-tered Nurse who has exten-sively researched and obtained educational credits in food allergies, special diets, nutrition & safety. She been cooking and entertaining since she was 12 years old.

Al GRACE APPlIANCE Culinary Corner Kitchen partnered with Whirlpool to build a first class kitchen featuring state of the art appliances at the 811 W. Riverside Blvd. location. It is the home of Chef Diana of Tasty Tidbits and plays a vital role for her classes.

Whiz Kids Cook(Ages8-15)Doesyourchildenjoybeinginthekitchenorwatchingthe Food Channel? Bring them in to learn all about cooking! Basic kitchen safety, reading recipes, cooking/baking utensils, measuring, pots & pans, knife skills demo and closely supervised individual knife lesson on care, cutting & cleaning (with signed waiver prior to first class only). Each day will have a new lesson and new foods that we will prepare and serve for lunch. Take home packet with everything learned, recipes and helpful information to use at home. REGISTER EARly: Register early so you won’t be disappointed. Oftenclassesreachthemaximumenrollmentearly.Also,classesdepend on minimum enrollments. Classes with insufficient enroll-ment will be cancelled one week prior to start date. Don’t take a chance. Your class may be cancelled.

AGE APPROPRIATE GUIDElINE: Community Education classes are designed for students of all ages. Age guidelines are stated with each class. Classes designated as ADULT are intended for students 18 years and older. With INSTRUCTOR PERMISSION, high school students may attend adult classes.Students 16-17 years old may be admitted to Continuing Education creditcoursesuponrequestfromthechiefexecutiveofficers(ordesignees) of the high school districts in which the student resides. OUT-OF-DISTRICT/OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS: In addition to the regular tuition and service fee, students residing outside District 511 will be charged out-of-district/state fees for credit courses. These additional fees will be waived if a student living outside the district/state is employed full-time within the district and able to present a letter from the employer testifying to that fact.PropertyownerspayingtaxestoDistrict511arealsoeligiblefor in-district rates. No out-of-district/state fees are charged for non-credit courses.

SPECIAl NEEDS: The College is committed to providing an accessible and supportive learning environment for all Whiz Kids and Eagle Academic Camp students. To help us meet this goal, at least three weeks in advance of the beginning of a Whiz Kids class or Eagle Academic Camp, call the College Community & Continu-ing Education office at (815) 921-3900. Notification of any disabil-ities or conditions requiring special accommodations or attention will allow the College to determine reasonable accommodations which can be made.

FUll AND CANCEllED ClASSES: RVC reserves the right to limit enrollments or cancel any class. Every effortwill bemadeto notify registrants when a class is cancelled.
