Relation between Semantics and teaching VocabularyTeacher: Master Dolores Del Rocio OrtegaSubject: SemanticsStudent: Roberto Alvear
A MODEL OF ADULT L2 VOCABULARY ACQUISITION
Adults relate their L2 meanings with translations from their L1 knowledge.
Children can learn the 2 languages at the same time.
In conclusion, although Vocabulary teaching has been very important for teachers, some had problems for translating to an appropriate equivalent meaning in their languages; while Semantics refers to the study of the meaning and the systematic ways those meanings are expressed in language.
A wide range of semantization strategies have been analyzed with method that include guessing meanings to taking notes.
Semantic restructuring starts when the learners takes into account the Semantic differences between a L2 word and its L1 translation or between two L1 words that share the same translation.
The Semantic difference between a L2 word and its L1 translation can often be very subtle.
Learners have to understand the meaning of a new L2 word based on the established semantic system.
L2 Learners need to have clear that Semantics interact with the process of Vocabulary learning.
