Wondering About What to Read Next? (Originally written for the library column in the Senior

Connection)

Tibetan Peach Pie by Tom Robbins

The author Tom Robbins, best known for his 1976 novel Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, shares

stories from his fascinating life. From growing up in Depression-era Appalachia to his travels in

India and participation in the psychedelic drug culture of the 60’s and 70’s, the humorous,

spiritual, and often irreverent Robbins stands out as just as fascinating a character as those in

his novels. Whether the reader is familiar with Tom Robbins’ work or not, Tibetan Peach Pie is

worth picking up.

Unruly Places: Lost Spaces, Secret Cities, and Other Inscrutable

Geographies by Alastair Bonnett

In Unruly Places, Alastair Bonnett has chronicled geographical oddities such as Wittenoom,

Australia (a blue-asbestos mining town which officially ceased to exist in 2007 because the

level of carcinogens had made it uninhabitable) and Holy Mountain, Mount Athos, where

females --both human and animal-- are banned from setting foot. For readers plagued with

late-summer wanderlust, Unruly Places will take them on a journey to the forgotten, banned,

beautiful and hidden places of the world.

Suspicion by Joseph Finder

In order to afford the private school his daughter loves, single father Danny Goodman

accepts a loan from Thomas Gavin, a wealthy money manager and father of his daughter’s

best friend. Almost immediately after the money is wired to Goodman’s account, the DEA

approaches him with an unappealing choice: either indictment for accepting cartel drug

money or work undercover in order to build the government’s case against Gavin and the

infamous Sinoloa cartel. For fans of thrillers, Suspicion is a great page-turning pick.
