Older adults are staying active and engaged! Through volunteering, family caregiving, and traditional employment, adults over 60 contributed $1.2 billion in paid and unpaid contributions to Douglas County in 2018.
Recent surveys found that many Douglas County residents aren’t aware of the services available to them or even where to start looking for help. 62 percent of seniors report having problems not knowing what services are available in their community.
Douglas County is growing and getting older. By 2030, one in four Douglas County residents will be over the age of 60. Between now and 2040, the population of residents, age 70 and older, will increase by another 370 percent.
Aging Resources of Douglas County is a one-stop center for aging issues and concerns. As a nonprofit organization, Aging Resources is dedicated to providing services, information, and resources that promote aging with independence and dignity. By working with community partners and dedicated volunteers, Aging Resources helps older people keep the cost of living down and quality of life up!

The Education & Outreach program brings people together from different walks of life to learn about the issues we all face as we get older. Through educational events, rural and urban outreach, and intergenerational activities, Aging Resources is helping create a more age-friendly future for Douglas County!
SENIOR SMILESIntergenerational programs encourage younger and older people to build strong, healthy relationships and challenge stereotypes about both age groups. As part of a mail outreach program, called Senior Smiles, students exchange letters with older adults who wish to participate in the program. Students practice kindness and understanding, while the seniors who receive their letters experience social connections with this younger generation.
