student entrepreneurship. The events, which include a £1,000
competition to pitch new business ideas, will encourage enterprising

Visiting the Anatomical Museum
If you find yourself in Edinburgh on the last Saturday of any month,
do take the opportunity to visit the University’s Anatomical Museum.
The museum is housed in the old Medical School at Teviot Place,
which was built in the 1880s. See the skeleton of the infamous mass
murderer William Burke, along with anatomical teaching models from
the 1800s and more than 40 life and death masks. (Read More)

Student bloggers
Alex Brown from England, PhD in Blue-ear Pig Disease at the Roslin Institute
Vicky Young from Scotland, PhD in Reproductive Health
“On paper, a PhD is defined as
an original body of research –
your thesis – worthy of review by
your viva examiners. The hope is
that it will be good enough to be
published in a peer-reviewed
journal.”
“Whilst Blue-Ear Pig Disease
gives a pretty good blog title, I'm
going to call it PRRSV from now
on since that's standard name
nowadays; this name has the
bonus of being sounding like it
was chosen by a happy cat
("purrs virus"), which is always a
cute concept.”
Theresia Mina from Indonesia, MSc by Research in Reproductive Sciences
“It was difficult to return to the
'normal lab day' after a break from
my previous job. However after a
week of pipetting training and back-
to-basics exercise, it gets easier
and my feet know where to get the
bottles and funnels and empty
tubes, and they dance merrily
around the lab.”
Why choose Edinburgh? Edinburgh has something for everyone. There are great
pubs, clubs and restaurants, theatres and cinemas,
museums, galleries, parks, gardens, shops and sport
centres.

the world. Our city mixes architectural beauty and history with a lively, fun
environment. Our city offers an exciting array of entertainment, history, culture
