INTRODUCTION

ABOUT THE COMPANY

THE BIRTH OF REIL

Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Ltd. was founded to aid in the upliftment of the

rural masses by empowering them, making them self-reliant and upgrading their living

conditions by taking electronics to the villages.

The birth of cooperative movement in India has its roots in the vision of Dr. Verghese

Kurein, ex-Chairman, NDDB. He realized that the upliftment of marginal dairy farmers

lay in their own hands through cooperative movement at community level.

NDDB, along with Department of Electronics, Govt. of India conceived a project to

introduce Electronic Milk Testers(EMT), for accurate and instant display of fat content in

milk. The technology was arranged in collaboration with a Danish Organization M/s. N

Foss Electric, and thus Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Limited was born in 1981.

REIL is an ISO 9001 public sector undertaking started as a joint venture between

RIICO(Rajasthan State Industrial Development & Investment Corporation) and

Instrumentation Limited, Kota with 49% and 51% ownership respectively.

Encouraged by the success of the EMT and the willingness of the rural folk to accept

modern technology, REIL initiated a bold step of providing a paradigm shift in

technology by introducing computers at village level. It also made forays into the

Renewable Energy Sector as well as Industrial Electronics and IT and has never looked

Page 2: Report[1]

back since.

With the advent of Solar Photovoltaic’s technology in the country and looking to its

prospective applications for the rural areas, the company ventured into this segment,

initially to manufacture SPV Modules in 1985. In the field of SPV technology the

company further diversified into the manufacture of Solar Photovoltaic based application

products, sub-systems and integrated systems most of which were developed in-house. In

the SPV segment, the Company manufactures SPV modules and application systems

including Domestic Lighting System, Street Lighting System, Chargeable Power Packs

for the rural, telecom, Railway and Defense sectors.

The company has a strong in-house Govt. recognized Research & Development Division

which has enabled the company to effect considerable improvements in the initial

adopted technologies. Indigenization of the Milk Testing equipment and incorporating the

latest State-of-the-Art microprocessor designs over the initial and older LSI designs has

enabled more features and new add-on equipment has been developed to provide

integrated system solutions. A prestigious collaboration with the Department of

Electronics ( DOE ) in 1990 for the establishment of Rural Electronics Technology

Centre and an award from DOE for Excellence in Electronics in 1991, testify REIL

achievements in the field of Rural Electronics. The Consistency in Excellence is

recognized with repeated award for Excellence in Electronics for the year 2001, given by

the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

AGRO DAIRY

1. RAW MILK RECEPTION DOCK (RMRD) AUTOMATION

SYSTEM

DESCRIPTION

Raw Milk Reception Dock (RMRD) is the primary point of liquid milk entry in dairies in

India. It is specifically meant for the reception of milk brought in cans, from villages

located over a wide area. It is different from the bulk milk collection system, which are

also in operation in these dairies. The collection process starts from the villages, groups

of which are assigned to distinct Milk Truck Routes. The Milk cans from  individual

villages of  many such routes are unloaded at the RMRD, after which the milk is weighed

(EWU) & tested (EMT or Milko-Scan) separately to issue a milk receipt statement

(Hardcopy) according to the measured parameters during the daily shift.

facility

DESCRIPTION

PC based Milk Collection Station is a specially designed integrated unit, which is a

combination of several units viz; the AZ Electronic Milk Tester, Milk Weighing System

& Personal Computer with 80 column printer. It measures the weight, fat content and

gives the printout of payment slip to the supplier of milk in each shift. The system also

facilitates storing ten days/monthly/yearly data and printing of cumulative summary of

shift as and when needed. This state of art equipment is able to perform120-150 operation

in an hour. The sequence of operation requires pouring of milk in a weighing container,

collection of milk sample at the time of pouring, entering the member's code through

keyboard, measuring of fat content, calculation of payment and printout of slips.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

PCMCS works on the principle of Infrared Spectrophotometer. The infrared energy

produced by a wide range source is filtered through IR filters of specific wavelengths and

focused through the samples under test. This energy passes through the samples and

strikes a detector, which converts it into an corresponding electrical signal. This signal

after amplification and certain corrections is processed by an microprocessor to be

displayed on the LCD panel

MILK DELIVERY TERMINAL

22

Page 24: Report[1]

DESCRIPTION

The Milk Delivery Terminal (MDT) is a Hand Held Computer, in which the program is

stored along with all the relevant data, for transactions during the journey of Delivery

Van of a Dairy Plant to deliver milk and milk products for sale at the respective outlets,

and book orders for delivery in the shifts on the next day.

The storage of program and data is done through personal Computer (Host PC), and is

called pre-journey configuration, which includes route specific master information. It also

includes master data of products, milk booth agents, and the transaction data such as

agent-wise product dispatch, trays delivered, dispatch of extra shipments etc. The data

pertaining to delivery, payment collection, order booking for the next day is input en-

route. Various reports can be prepared at the end of trip.

After a journey is over, the transaction data files retransferred from MDT to the Host PC,

over communication cable connected to serial communication port. The MDT requires

about three hours for full charging after which it can be used continuously for 7-8 hours..

FEATURES

1. An ideal substitute to the manual system

2. User-access-control and password protection

3. Instant calculation and recording of transactions

4. Print product-delivery reports

5. Perform products order-booking

6. Perform collection of payments

7. Perform trays delivery and receipt transactions

CONCLUSION

The summer training of an engineering student place an important role to

develop him as a well groomed professional. it is a golden opportunity for

him to give theoretical concepts in a practical shape in the field of

application.

In these 30 days of exposure in “Rajasthan Electronics and Instrumentation

Limited” I learned a lot on various aspects of organizational structure,

departments, latest technologies and their impact. Now after one month I can

say one thing for sure that the best way to learn is at work. It was a really

interesting experience and I enjoyed every part of it and hope that it would

be helpful in my future.
