“Men Behaving Responsibly” held in August 2010

Several dozen young men participated in a daylong sexual health and wellness and accountability program aimed at young men at the middle and high school level.

Established in 2011 in anticipation of achieving 501c3 status

Purpose: To identify opportunities for external funding of chapter programs

Purpose: To suggest partnerships that extend the limited resources of chapter by working with other local groups with similar goals/objectives

Accomplishments: -INSPIRE, EDUCATION ENABLE grant application

Participated in “Men and Boys” Breakfast & College Fair for THREE YEARS!

“Mentoring the 100 Way” Program at Westlawn Middle School has completed its THIRD SEMESTER!

About 50 male students (6th, 7th and 8th grade) served in weekly sessions

Held each February, the Men and BoysBreakfast has become one of the biggestevents of year for the 100. At least twodozen colleges represented, many by members of 100 Black Men. Each boy attending receives a book from 100 Black Men.

41 students completed end-of-year surveys May 2011

40 of the 41 students plan to attend college

75% of the students have interest in pursuing studies in either MATH or SCIENCE

63% said “making the honor roll” is VERY IMPORTANT

70.7% believe you can ALWAYS “do anything you put your mind to”

When asked about career plans, 53% of those surveyed picked some type of professional athlete (NFL, NBA, MLB)

At least 10 members from 100 Black Men made presentations to 8th graders for Westlawn’s Annual Career Day in May 2011

8th grade group included young men and women

Areas covered: dentistry, law, education, communications

After two spring terms, the pizza party at the end of school year has become an “expected” event for students at Westlawn.
