October/November 2019 SOUTH EAST CORNERSTONE SD NO. 209 Wawota Parkland School participated in the annual Remembrance Day ceremony held in our gym on No- vember 7th. The ceremony started with a candle lighting by SLC president, William Husband, which was soon followed by some great presentations by our K-8 classes. “I think it’s really import that we do this,” WPS teacher Charlene Harvey told us., “I am very proud of the ef- fort the students and teachers put into this.” The ceremony capped off with a moment of silence where the whole school stood in silence for two minutes. Soon after, RCMP Constable, Dani Zaya and Legion member, Morley Hamilton marched out led by Air Cadets, Breck Van Meer, River Whitebear, Hunter Tripp & Breck Therens as the rest of the school watched in respect. The students, however, stayed together and joined up with their peers to make a “peace cranes” out of paper, giving the school a sense of teamwork. Remembrance Day has been an annual event since the early the early 20 th century with no sign of stopping anytime soon. We are honored to have a day like this, to remember the past and try to make a change for the future. (Submitted by Dylan Mansfield) Remembrance Day

Fantasy series, true war stories or true life stories for teens. Any young adult book would be ap-preciated as well, as Scholastic doesn't have a wide selec-tion of these.
If you have any books or series’ that you would like to donate to the library please drop them off at the front office with Elly and she will make sure I get them. If you leave your name I will place a donation label inside the cover with your name. Much appreciated.

ROOKIE GIRLS: Rookie Girls Volleyball Team ended their season with a fun game against the the Junior Girls team. Both teams put up a great fight and showed growth and skill. We had a great group of girls come out, work hard, and play hard! Can't wait to see what the future has in store for this athletic group of young ladies.

Carol Day
The student council has been busy building school spirit this fall. We are still operating with six colour teams trying to earn points for their team by participating in spirit days. This Halloween we hosted our first noon
hour dance for grade 1-6, it was a big hit. We also started birthday cupcakes this year. At the end of each month students who celebrated their birthday receive a cup-
cake and birthday greeting on behalf of the Student Council. By the end of June all students will receive their own cupcake. December brings lots of fun events: dress up days every Friday, spirit week, food drive, name that carol challenge and our annual pancake breakfast.
Purdys Chocolate Fundraiser – we sold $5912.98 in chocolates. We will see our profit cheque in a few weeks. We earn at least 25% of our total sales and hopefully a bit more because we broke the $5000 mark. We also purchased a basket from Purdys to raffle off at the Christmas Concert so stay tuned for that as well. They SLC hopes to use that money to purchase something that will benefit the en-tire student body. Pick up of items is scheduled for December 6
