Religious Education Department Nagle Catholic College boasts a dynamic and enthusiastic Religious Education team. The Department consists of a range of teachers from various Learning Areas, which provides for a pedagogically diverse approach to Religious Education. As the first Learning Area of the College, Religious Education is a “Ministry of the Word” and is “an activity of Evangelisation in its own right” (Mandate, 62). Therefore, teachers of Religious Education are encouraged to recognise both the responsibility and dignity of this teaching role in handing on the content of the Catholic faith in its entirety. Religious Education is compulsory for all students in Years 7 to 12. Students in Years 7 to 10 study the Come Follow Me textbook series. It is of particular importance that, at these Year levels, teachers are committed to producing creative and interesting lessons for students. Of no less importance are the Year 11 and 12 Religion and Life courses. At these Year levels, students choose either a General or ATAR Religion and Life pathway (or both). Students enjoy these courses, as teachers provide them with the necessary insight to understand the relevance of the Catholic faith for society, including their own lives. Being a large Department, regular faculty meetings become a necessary avenue for communication. During these meeting times, Team members may also engage in Professional Development opportunities that enrich both the Department as a whole, and the individual teacher. Religious Education and Faith & Life of the College are closely interconnected. Both support and enrich each other. Religious Education teachers at Nagle warmly welcome the opportunity to support this ministerial aspect of the College. This position is Fulltime Ongoing, commencing Term 1 2016.
