RIETER‘S INNOVATIVE SOLUTION FOR PRODUCING FANCY YARNSThe fashion world is changing faster and faster. Today‘s fashion-able yarns are obsolete after a short time as new fashion trends emerge. There is an increasing tendency to use fancy yarns for fashionable eff ects.

Rieter has developed an innovative solution for producing fancy yarns on Ring Spinning and ComforSpin machines. This inte-grated fancy yarn option is called “VARIOspin”. The associated programming tool for individual creation of fancy yarn patterns is called “VARIOspinDATA”.

VARIOspin is an integrated solution covering a variety of fancy yarn requirements.VARIOspin works with the FLEXIdraft drive system, which has been optimized for the acceleration and deceleration requirements for spinning fancy yarn. NO THIN PLACES BEFORE AND AFTER THE EFFECTSOne of the common problems of fancy yarns are thin places before and after the eff ect. Thin places are the result of twist relaxation in the yarn. Technological theory claims that twist always goes fi rst to thin places. When slub or multi-count yarns are being produced, a thick place follows a thin place and the twist will consequently go to the thin place, which makes it appear thinner than it actually is. With the Rieter software, critical thin places before and after the eff ects are eliminated.

FANCY YARN – 100% REPRODUCIBILITYThe Rieter solution for VARIOspin in combination with the proven features of the basic machine drive and control concept ensures that the eff ects in the yarn correspond to the eff ects programmed on the machine. The pattern repeats are 100% reproducible. FLEXIdraft, the modern drafting system drive provides high-precision settings. All three bottom rollers are continuously monitored. All important parameters can be adjusted electronically and precisely with FLEXIdraft – highly economically.

A variety of eff ects can be produced on Rieter Ring Spinning machines with the VARIOspin option. Eff ects are created by varying the main draft and/or by varying the delivery speed.

SLUB YARNThe production of slub yarns is the oldest and most common of the 4 possible eff ects (see page 2). The characteristics of slub yarns are thick places created by main draft variations in the drafting system. Slub yarns have the same twist/m or twist/inch in the slubs and in the basic yarn. Consequently the twist multi-plier changes because of mass variation. The mass eff ects are produced by varying the speed of the infeed and middle bottom roller. The speed of the delivery bottom roller is constant. As a rule, slubs tend to be short eff ects.

MULTI-COUNT YARNMulti-count yarn features similar characteristics to slub yarn. As its name implies, diff erent counts can occur in one yarn. That is to say, a basic count is defi ned, relative to which in-creases and decreases in mass can be produced by selective acceleration and deceleration of the drafting system. As is the case with slub yarn, these are produced in an irregular pattern repeat, thus preventing a moiré eff ect in the end product. The twist multiplier in multi-count yarn always remains the same in the base yarn and the eff ect. Therefore, when multi-count yarn

is being produced, not only the speed of the infeed and middle bottom rollers varies, but also the delivery bottom roller. The eff ects are longer than in slub yarn.

MULTI-TWIST YARNMulti-twist processed yarns are produced with the same yarn count and a basic twist multiplier. The eff ects are places with diff erent twists. To accomplish this, the whole drafting zone has to be accelerated and decelerated. The yarn count has to remain the same, i.e. all bottom rollers have to have the same relative acceleration and deceleration. The yarn twist changes due to the relationship between spindle speed and delivery speed. As a rule, multi-twist eff ects tend to be longer eff ects.

MULTI-EFFECT YARNMulti-eff ect yarns are a combination of slub, multi-count and multi-twist eff ects, which creates special yarn eff ects. With multi-eff ect, free programming of the machine is also possible.

VARIOspinDATA – EFFECT DESIGN AND SIMULATIONVARIOspinDATA is the Rieter software tool for design and simulation of pattern repeats. The program is Windows-based.

Input, management and modifi cation of the eff ect programs (pattern) is performed offl ine.

The program has a capacity of 700 steps per pattern and 3 diff erent eff ect sizes (mass increase) per repeat. The higher the number of eff ect lengths and the variation in basic yarn length between eff ects, the lower the risk of moiré patterns in the fabric.

The pattern is programmed in VARIOspinDATA. Design options:a) The repeat is available as a fi le (e.g. Excel fi le) and can be

integrated into VARIOspinDATA by „copy/paste“.When using other systems, the pattern can be re-arranged. Some systems start the pattern with a basic thread length. VARIOspin starts with the eff ect.

b) The pattern can be set up as required within the givenlimits or with selected limits via the random generator of VARIOspinDATA.

VARIOspinDATA converts the eff ect data into machine data. Data transfer to the spinning machine is via interface.

VARIOspinDATA – EFFECT SPECIFICATIONS

EFFECT PARAMETERS3 diff erent mass increases and/or twist changes can be produced.

MASS CHANGEThe mass can be changed within the range of - 50% to + 200%(= 300%).

EFFECT LENGTHThe minimum eff ect length is more or less proportional to the mass increase, i.e. + 50% mass increase ≈ minimum eff ect length of approx. 50 mm. + 200% mass increase ≈ 200 mm minimum eff ect length. There is no limit on maximum eff ect length.

LENGTH OF BASIC YARNThe minimum length of the basic yarn between 2 eff ects, also referred to as the pause, is 50 mm. There is no limit to maximum length.

PATTERN REPEATA pattern repeat consists of several steps. One step contains the effect number, effect length and basic yarn length. The program provides for 700 steps. A pattern repeat starts with an eff ect length.

VARIOspinDATA – EFFECT MANAGEMENT

MAIN WINDOW / FILEOverview of the spinning mill with machines, machine groups and sections as well as eff ect program allocations. New fancy yarn articles can be produced. Existing articles can be edited and deleted.

MANAGEMENTMachine groups can be modifi ed and new machines can be added. This function enables the fancy yarn articles to be managed so that an up-to-date overview of the allocation of the fancy yarn articles to the machines in production is always available. An overview of the existing fancy yarn articles is also provided.

SETTINGSSetting parameters of each machine or machine group can be modifi ed. Font and program options can be selected on request. The program language can be changed. English, German, Turkish, French, Italian and Spanish are currently available. The units of the count system and of yarn twist can easily be selected.

EFFECTSAll eff ect pattern repeats produced can be called up via this function so that the required pattern repeat can then be loaded onto the machine. The pattern repeats are subdivided by type of eff ect for optimum overview.

VISUALIZATIONProgrammed pattern repeats can be visualized by means of a simulation tool. After a fancy yarn pattern repeat has been simulated, the data can be checked by means of an embedded checking function. Simulations of yarn characteristics and fabrics can already be assessed offl ine on-screen so that the fancy yarn pattern repeats can be ideally prepared for production on the machine.

TOOLSData are transferred via an interface from the PC to the machine. The following tasks can be performed:

test of parameter input and communication between PC and machine loading pattern repeats from PC to machineloading pattern repeats from machine to PC deleting pattern repeats directly on the machine.

SPINNING RINGSRieter recommends T-fl ange rings for eff ect spinning. Depending on count range, fl ange 1 or 2.

TRAVELERTraveler mass must be selected according to the eff ect mass in order to prevent the balloon from collapsing. Recommended traveler shape is high bowed.

SPINDLE SPEEDAs a base value or general rule, spindle speed can be chosen as for a conventional yarn of the average fancy yarn count. The chosen spindle speed has to be reduced by about 20-30% compared with the conventional yarn.Criteria:

COP CHANGE PROCESSThe integrated fancy yarn device enables the cop change process to be handled reliably and effi ciently via the software, both with conventional yarn and with fancy yarn. Spin-off prior to cop change is performed without eff ect. Both twist and draft adjustment are possible.
