Port Blair, Aug 29 The Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) (Urban) is one of the flagship programmes initiated by Govt. of India across the Country with the primary objective of making India 'Open Defecation Free & Management of Solid Waste'. In order to ensure the citizens of Port Blair city have access to toilets either Individual Toilet or Community Toilet, the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) had formulated City Sanitation Plan, which was duly approved by the State Level High 'Swachhata' journey of Port Blair City PBMC initiates various developmental/ sanitation projects under Smart City Mission Establishes 9 decentralized Solid & Liquid Resource Management Centres at different locations Powered Committee for its further implementation. Accordingly, surveys were conducted and based on identification, requirement of Toilets for State Target had been set i.e., 336 Individual Household Latrine, 48 Community Toilet & 20 Public Toilet set. Against the State target, PBMC constructed 336 IHHL, 83 CTs & 29 PTs, and certified as Open Defecation Free (ODF) status by the 3rd Party assessor, after completing the due process of ODF Criteria. The Port Blair city with the launch of new protocol for ODF+ & ODF++, had enhanced the services of existing Community & Public Toilets, along with establishment of 'She toilets'/ ladies friendly toilet with a facility of sanitary napkin vending machine, napkin incinerator, resting room, attractive artistic wall painting, etc., improvement of public toilets with rain water harvesting measures, in-house plantation, complaint redressal system, artistic wall painting to give aesthetic pleasant look, regulation of Cesspool emptiers both PBMC's own & private and achieved ODF+ Certification. In order to manage the Faecal Sludge & its proper Treatment, project has been designed with the assistance of National Institute of Urban Affairs under Smart City Mission and after tendering process, the Contract has been New Delhi, Aug 29 (PIB) The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued new guidelines today. Social/ academic/ sports/ entertainment/ cultural/ religious/ political functions and other congregations will be permitted with a ceiling of 100 persons, with effect from 21st September, 2020. However, such limited gatherings can be held with mandatory wearing of face masks, social distancing, provision for thermal scanning and hand wash or sanitizer. Lockdown shall continue to be implemented strictly in the Containment Zones till 30th September, 2020. In view of prevailing security scenario in recent times,the BSF Jammu started a special anti tunneling drive all along the International Border of Jammu region. On 28 August 2020, a vigilant BSF patrol party during an anti tunneling drive, while carrying out in-depth scanning of area, suspected a place at International Border in Distt Samba and detected a tunnel of appx 25 feet deep and about 3-4 feet in diameter in Indian territory near border fencing in Galar area. The Pakistan made sand bags with marking of Shakargarh/Karachi factories were also found at the mouth of the tunnel to hide it. To facilitate citizens to handover segregated waste, PBMC underSmart City Mission procured & distributed 46456 pairs of Blue (forDry Waste) & Green (for Organic Waste) household bins along withRed (for Domestic Hazardous Waste) cloth bag to promote it as 2 Bin1 Bag concept. PBMC has introduced segregated transportation ofwet & dry waste in dedicated trucks and also introduced collection ofwaste from Bulk waste generators during night hours with levying ofuser fees which ensures segregated waste collection as well asgeneration of revenue. All the Bulk Waste Generators having sufficientspace were mandated to setup in-house waste management system. PBMC have established 9 decentralized Solid & Liquid ResourceManagement Centres (SLRMC) at different locations to process wetas organic compost & dry waste for onward sorting, shredding, baling& transportation to mainland for recycling.
