‘U-14s’: RULES OF the COMPETITION
1. Teacher-advisors and coaches accompanying the teams will be responsible for the good conduct of the teams and their supporters.
2. Teacher-advisors and coaches will be responsible for ensuring that no mobile phones, pagers, computers or any other forms of mobile communication are used by the team or supporters in the holding and debate venues.

3. Teams may not bring any handwritten, printed or published materials with them into their preparation room for impromptu debates, except an English Language dictionary, a bilingual dictionary, and a single-volume encyclopaedia or almanac per team.
4. Teams should be informed that they may be disqualified should there be any violation of the rules and regulations.
Format of Debate• 6 minutes for each main substantive speech from
the three speakers of both sides• The first or second speaker for each side delivers
a 3-minute reply speech, with the opposition reply going first, followed by the proposition reply
• Impromptu rounds: Teams will be given 1 hour to prepare to debate a given motion, for a given side
• Only the 5 registered team members may participate in the preparation – no one else is allowed in the preparation room with them.
Format of debate• Debaters and audience members should keep
disturbances to a minimum while a debate is ensuing.• During preparation time and during the debate,
speakers may not communicate with their coach, other team members who are not speaking in that debate, or any person in the audience, except to receive time signals
• There is to be strictly no communication between coaches and debaters during the two-minute consultation time given to the speakers and the reserves before the reply speeches begin.
Reminders• Teams are responsible for the safekeeping of
their valuables at all times. Neither Raffles Institution nor the Raffles Debaters will be responsible for any loss of valuables.
• The judges’ decisions for the competition are final.
• There is to be strictly no communication between the swing team and the other River Valley High School team during the debates.
