San Marcos head baseball coach Bryan Webbenters his eighth season as head coachof the SMHS baseball program. He hassuccessfully guided the team from thedepths of district mediocrity to an ex-pectation to contend for district champi-onships, long playoff runs and perhapssometime soon, a State Championship. In his seven seasons with the Rattlers,

Webb has compiled a 61-42 record andhis team has posted no less than 19wins the past four seasons, while ad-vancing to the playoffs the past fiveyears.Last season, the Rattlers went 22-14-

0, finishing second in District 25-5A, arguably one

of the toughest 5A baseball districts in the state. Webb has been coaching high school baseball

for 15 years, 13 as a head coach. His career recordis 218-137-4. At the college level, Webb played two years for

Ranger Junior College before transferring to Tar-leton State, where he earned his Bache-lor and Masters degrees in education. Prior to coming to SMHS, Webb was

head coach at Tolar High School, Grove-ton High School and Bair High School. “It has been an honor and a privilege

to be able to coach here in San Marcosand lead a wonderful group of talentedyoung men — past and present,” Webbsaid. “Our program has made a lot ofstrides in the past, we’re not going tocompletely satisfied until we bring homea State title.”Webb has been married to his wife

Britney for 14 years and has three sons: Gunner(12), Kannon (10) and Kutter-Gage (8).

Jaime “Doc” Perez is in his 28thyear as an Athletic Trainer and inhis 14th year as the Head AthleticTrainer at SMHS. He is a memberof the National Athletic Trainers As-sociation, Texas State AthleticTrainers Assoc. and the SouthwestAthletic Trainers Association.

Perez received his undergradu-ate and graduate degrees from theUniversity of Louisiana-Lafayette.

He and his wife Yvonne havetwo sons, Jaime II, a junior atSMHS, and Enrique, an eighth-grader at Goodnight MiddleSchool.

David Ryan Sambrano is enter-ing his second season coaching atSMHS as he continues to seekcertification in Physical Educationand 8-12 History.

He is the son of David Sam-brano and Angela Sambrano, andhas two brothers: Zachariah Sam-brano (a freshman at Texas StateUniversity) and Matthew Sam-brano, who is a member of theSMHS JV team.

He was a four-year letterman forthe Rattler baseball team (2006-2010) and plans to graduate thisDecember with a Bachelors of Sci-ence.

Coach Gonzales played short-stop for for years on the varsityfor this program and for coachWebb. He graduated in 2012 andis currently finishing up his degreein Kinesiology. He hopes to oneday be as much of a success tothe program as coach Webb hasbeen to this Rattler Program.

Coach Rocha is in his first yearof coaching. He played four yearsfor Hays and was an All StatePitcher. Coach Rocha received ascholarship to the University ofOklahoma and played there forfour years before being drafted bythe Philadelphia Phillies for a shortstint before going after his love ofcoaching and joining the San Mar-cos Rattler coaching staff.

Assistant Coach Cortez is inhis second year as a member ofthe SMHS coaching staff andsays he’s excited “to return to thebaseball diamond with such afantastic group of young men. It isa joy to be a part of their develop-ment and witness the great thingsgoing on in our program.”

Cortez, who also teaches U.S.History, has been coaching forseven years. He and his wife Mar-cie are the proud parents of theirbaby daughter, Mia.
