The content of interviews can focus on, how your child has progressed during the year, the programs that have been put into place to support your child and also and additional support that may be needed in 2018. Although we have a system for transferring information between class teachers, awareness and input by the parents ensures the flow of programs and strategies from one year to the next. Our teachers have many things in place for individual students, from sensory supports, to extra verbal cues, to differing work load expectations. Parental understanding of these ensures they can be quickly and effectively transferred to the next teacher. Principal’s News continued...

2018

Class placement forms are due in at the end of this week, please ensure they are dropped in to the office by Friday. Due to a higher than normal numbers of students in Years 2 and 3 leaving the school, we will be running with 10 classes in 2018. Class placements will not be posted until Tuesday 12pm the 30th January. If parents are away on holidays, they can ring the office and information will be provided. New students and SEN(Special Education Needs) students will meet their classroom teachers at 2.30pm on Tuesday 30th January. We are hoping to organise the Uniform shop to be open from 12pm on this day also.

Class Structures:

Miss Suttie has been taking the current Year 5 students as part of their transition to 2018. This will continue over the next 2 weeks whilst the Year 6 students are at High School. Last week they undertook a range of cooperative learning activities. More will be shared with everyone on Facebook.

Holiday Works

We have many infrastructure developments planned for the holidays. These include new air conditioners for Rooms 1,2,3 and 4, concreting the area outside rooms 5-8, extension of the Kindergarten/Pre-Primary play area through a new fence and an upgrade to the staff toilets. The rock wall adjoining the Senior primary playground is also to be replaced with a limestone wall, We are currently working with Mrs Newman to support the transition of the art room into a music space for Semester 2. As a school we have applied for both a playground grant and a grant for a Science Laboratory. We are also planning to apply for a CBH grant for bus shelters that are closer to the road, enabling easier and safer access for students.

Interschool Carnival

Wow what an exciting event Interschool Carnival turned out to be this year. The closest in scores for the last 5 years, in any interschool event. Congratulations to all those who participated, as it was not only our individual performances but out team games that enabled us to bring the trophy home. Also, a special mention to Miss McCarley who not only coordinated the day, but coaching the students before school and at lunch time. Final scores were:

1st BPS Points 1061.5

2nd KPS Points 942

3rd SPS points 834.5

More information on individual champions and runner-ups can be found on the next page.

P&C NEWS

You SHOULD NOT rely on scheme water during a bushfire Residents living in or near bushland are reminded not to rely on public water supplies if they plan to stay and de-fend their homes during a bushfire. If you plan to stay and defend your home you must have an INDEPENDENT water supply and pumping capability. Scheme water may not be available due to damaged infrastructure, extreme demand depleting supply and pres-sure, or a cut to power which is used to pump water. We have made our own preparations for the 2017-18 bushfire season by readying equipment and systems to cope with extreme conditions. Despite these efforts, it is likely there will be a reduction in water pressure, and scheme water supply tanks may run empty in the event of fire.

For more information about preparing a bushfire survival plan and what you will need to actively defend your home, visit the Department of Fire and Emergency Services website www.emergency.wa.gov.au/prepare

A message from the Department of Water The Department of Water has advised people in bushfire prone areas with bores and access to surface water that they can take and store water to support bushfire plans.
