Do you real- ize that tonight puts us at the mid-way point of the 2012 season? Just like my birthdays; they come and go way too quickly. If the first half of the season is any indication of what the remainder of 2012 has to offer, then you fans are in for a treat. L et’s end the first half in style and have another 100 lapper. That is what you will see tonight as Five Flags Speedway will be hosting race number 2 for the Pro Late Models. All drivers should be eager and ready to race again at “America’s Favorite Home Track” after a long lay-off. March 30th was the last time they have been in action here so count on a good car count. Mike Garvey is the points leader in the Allen Turner Hyundai Pro Late Model 100 Series. T he Sportsman and Bombers are also in action. It’s also our Annual Kids Bike Races. Hope you brought a fast bike and a helmet. These races will be split into four age groups, and as usual, will be a lot of fun for the kids and fans. P romoter Tim Bryant has teamed up with John Dykes, of South Alabama Speedway in Opp, and are hosting a two night series for the Pro Late Models. After tonight most of these drivers will journey 100 miles to Opp for a 100 lap Viper Series race at SAS. During the drivers meeting tomorrow, they will draw a driver’s name from a hat. That lucky driver wins a brand new set of Hoosier tires. The eligible PLM driv- ers will be the ones racing here tonight. Pro Late Model Super Late Model What’s the Difference? Well, there is a lot that is the same on both classes of cars. Tires, shocks, fuel, set up, body style, height, spoiler, and so on. The one BIG difference is the power plant. The PLM engine is limited in horse- power to make racing more affordable. Most use a crate engine. No tweaking inside the sealed engine allowed. The SLM cars run about a half second faster, and the engine cost is about 5 times more. Specs are on our web site.

Let’s end the first half in style and have another

100 lapper. That is what you will see tonight as Five Flags Speedway will be hosting race number 2 for the Pro Late Models. All drivers should be eager and ready to race again at “America’s Favorite Home Track” after a long lay-off. March 30th was the last time they have been in action here so count on a good car count. Mike Garvey is the points leader in the Allen Turner Hyundai Pro Late Model 100 Series.

action. It’s also our Annual Kids Bike Races. Hope you brought a fast bike and a helmet. These races will be split into four age groups, and as usual, will be a lot of fun for the kids and fans.

Chris Davidson makes no bones about it. The Pearland, Texas driver is not trying to keep the secret of his success under wraps. “I’m not gonna lie. The key is Mike Garvey,” David-son said. Davidson has leaned on Garvey for a few years with the setup of his black No. 41. “Garvey hasn’t done anything different for us. He’s help-ing in the same exact manner,” said Davidson, who currently sits seventh in the PLM points standings going into this week. “It just took us some time to figure out what we needed to do to turn it into results.” A few years back, the 34 year old had the prestigious Snowball trophy in his grasp. He led the 2002 Snow-ball Derby on the white flag before tire issues forced him to a fourth-place finish . Note: This is an abridged version of a story by Chuck Corder.
