It’s been almost 60 years since GM debuted the

re-designed 1955 Chevy that would spark the Tri-

5 movement. To this day, the 1955 to ’57 Shoebox

is one of the most desirable classic cars to own.

While purists tend to keep them in era-correct

showroom trim, re-powering the Tri-5 with a

modern LS based power plant has become so

popular, that Hedman Husler Hedders, located in

Alpharetta, GA, has designed and now manufac-

tures, a very comprehensive collection of vehicle

specific LS swap headers and polyurethane en-

gine/transmission mount kits for classic Bowties

with an LS swap... including the coveted Tri-5

models.

Husler’s mid-length and long tube design LS

swap headers are engineered alongside their com-

panion LS conversion mount kits, to ensure they

fit properly when you start putting wrench to

Take the biggest,

most powerful engine

you can find and make it

fit into your car’s engine bay – that is the basis

of hot rodding. However, doing that can create

any number of clearance issues, especially around

the location of the oil filter. Even with the factory

engine, there are still instances when filters can

be hard to reach. Oil filter relocation kits were

developed for just this reason, although with all of

the different engine and car combinations, not ev-

eryone could use the same filter bases. Thankfully,

Hamburger’s Performance Products has made

an adjustable filter base that gives you complete

freedom to mount your filter virtually anywhere.

Never has there been a more versatile filter

wheels and breaking the 10-sec-

ond barrier thanks to modern

launch controls and powerful new

must meet strict NHRA safety

regulations, one of which is the

requirement for a

driveshaft loop.

NHRA rules require a drivesh-

aft loop on any vehicle that runs

the quarter mile quicker than

13.99-seconds while running slicks

or quicker than 11.49-seconds on

street tires. The reason for this re-

quirement is to keep the driveshaft from

digging into the ground or piercing the floor-

pan of the vehicle in the event of a front univer-

sal joint failure, possibly causing a sudden loss of

vehicle control or serious injury to the driver.

To comply with these rules, Trans Dapt’s

Recognizing that the 1993-2002 Camaro/

Firebird and 1978-1993 Ford Mustang are some
