Question 2:How does your media product

represent social groups?

Page 2: Question 2 evaluation

AgeBy using a young male model for my images I have immediately targeted a younger audience of ages 16-25. I edited my images on Photoshop and gave them a blue hue; with the shadows and low key lighting created in the photography studio it gives a moody look to the image which I have used to represent the young, teen indie genre. The direct address given, and the blank, angry facial expression again gives a moody and aggressive feel, following the style of young, male indie photography, for example the images of Jake Bugg in the top right. The short hair and clean face of my model also represent a younger age group and the t-shirt he is wearing is very simple and creates a young look . All of my images are also rather conservative in the sense that he is covered up and focus more on the model rather than their exaggerated sexuality like in other genres, most commonly in women. The conservative images give a sense of innocence and focus to the music which was the style I was trying to achieve to represent a younger age and target a young audience.

Gender As my audience proved to be mostly male and into indie music from my questionnaire results this is the audience I tried to target through my design. All of the models I used in my images are male to represent the very masculine driven genre of indie rock, as the most popular bands and artists in the indie scene are male. I exaggerated the idea of a masculine theme by choosing a colour scheme of black, blue, grey and white with heavy connotations towards boys. I also edited my photographs in Photoshop using curves and gradient map to give them a blue hue again representing the male gender. Both my colours scheme and images are very dark two with connotations of mystery and danger, closely linked to the male gender. The facial expressions In the models give an aggressive feel and follow the theme of the magazine as well as representing the male gender.

Social Class The indie genre is based around working class people who are usually every day looking and ordinarily dressed men. The average man with a talent. I represented the idea of working class in my magazine by using a simple design and layout, simple colours, nothing too extravagant. My models are also very ordinary looking for this reason with short hair and plain t-shirts which represents the male working class group, who are very relaxed and care little about or have little time to care about, or not enough money to care about appearances and just go for basics.
