InstallationInstalltheQuestDEH3000Rremotesensorinacentralareaofthestructurewhereitwillsensetherelativehumidityofthestructureaccurately.DonotinstalltheremotesensorwhereitmaynotaccuratelysensetherelativehumiditysuchasnearHVACsupplyregisters,nearexteriordoorsandwindows,ornearapoolorspa.Installinaccordancewithallapplicablecodesandstandards.

2.1 Control Panel Install Instruc-tions1. Separatethefrontpanelfromtheback

panelbydepressingthemiddlesectionsofthetopandbottomofthefrontpanel.

2. Locatethewiringaccessholeinthewallorotherflatmountingsurface.Placethebackpanelintopositionanddrilltheappropriatemountingholes.

3. Insertthescrewsandtighten.Levelasnecessary.

4. Maketheelectricalconnectionstotheterminalsonthebackpanelasshownintheapplicablewiringdiagram(seeSections2.2-2.4).

5. Testtheinstallation(seeSection2.5).

2.2 Remote Sensor Install InstructionsThis section is applicable only to customers who have purchased a remote sensor package. The standard DEH 3000 controller does not offer remote functionality.

2.3 Remote Sensor Usage

IMPORTANT!•Theuseofspraypaintonthesensorhousingmaydamagethesensorandisnotcoveredbytheproductwarranty.

Theremotesensingoptionisusedwhenaninstallationrequiresmountingthehumidityandtemperaturesensoroutoftheconditionedspaceorwhenitisdesiredtospecificallymonitorandcontroltheconditionsataparticularlocationinalargerconditionedspace.

Boththeneedforandlocationoftheremotesensorshouldbedeterminedbyaheating/coolingprofessional.

2.4 Remote Sensor Wiring Instructions1.Routingsignalwires:

Youwillberequiredtosupplyandroute24gauge,4conductorsolidwire(2-linetelephonewire)betweentheDEH3000Rcontrollerandtheremotesensorlocation.•Donotrunwireslongerthan100ft.

•Theuseof24gaugewireisoptimal.Thinnergaugewiremaylimitsensordistance.Thickergaugeswillnotworkwithspliceconnectorsprovided.

•Avoidroutingparalleltohighvoltagewiring.

•Maintainadistanceof2ft.ormorefromhighvoltagelines.

2.Sensorconnection:

Thesensorcanbemountedtoawallorceilingsurface.Idealsensorlocationis5ft.abovethefloor.Wiresshouldexitthrougha½”diameterholeinthemountingsurfaceatthemountinglocation.Usetheprovidedsplice

connectorstoconnectthe4wiresfromtheremotesensortotheuser-suppliedinterconnectwire.Besuretokeeppropercolorsattachedtoeachother.

3.Sensormounting:

Youwillneedtwoscrewstomountthesensor.Usethetwoslottedholestomountthebaseofthesensortothewallandthensnapthecoverintoplace.

4.Controllerconnection:

Usetheprovidedspliceconnectorstoconnectthe4wiresfromtheDEH3000Rtotheuser-suppliedinterconnectwire.Besuretokeepthepropercolorsattachedtoeachother.

Continuewiththeinstallationasdescribedintherestofthismanual.

2.5 Control Panel Wiring Instructions

WARNING! DO NOT ALLOW THE YELLOW WIRE FROM THE QUEST DEHUMIDIFIER TO CONTACT THE RED OR WHITE WIRES FROM THE QUEST DEHUMIDIFIER, DAMAGE TO THE 24-VOLT TRANSFORMER WILL RESULT.

WARNING! THE QUEST DEH 3000R DIGITAL CONTROL OPERATES ON A LOW VOLTAGE CIRCUIT (24 VAC) AND MUST NEVER CONTACT OR BE CONNECTED TO A HIGH VOLTAGE CIRCUIT.

WARNING! UNPLUG THE QUEST DEHUMIDIFIER BEFORE WIRING THE DEH 3000R.

Theinstallermustsupplyallfieldwiring,includingthewiringbetweentheQUESTdehumidifierandtheQuestDEH3000R.SomeofthecontrolwiresleavingtheQUESTdehumidifiermaynotbeusedinsomecontrolsituationsandshouldbeleftdisconnectedwithwirenutstapedontothestrippedends.

BesuretoconsulttheelectricalschematicinthismanualortheinternalelectricalboxoftheQuestdehumidifierbeforemakinganycontrolconnections.

TheWhitewirecontrolstheoptionalmotorizeddamperthatcanbeinstalledintoafreshairduct.ThisdamperprovidestheabilitytocontrolfreshairventilationusingtheventilationtimerfunctionoftheQuestDEH3000Randtheterminallabeled“DMP” (SeeSection3.8).Leavethe“DMP”terminalunusedifamotorizeddamperisnotused,andcapofftheWhitewirefromtheQuestdehumidifier.

Lock-out the A/C during dehumidificationThiswillturnofftheA/Cwheneverthedehumidifierruns.

1.WiretheYellowthermostatterminaltotheNCterminalontheQuestDEH3000R.TheinstallermustsupplythewiringbetweentheQuestdehumidifierandthecontrolpanel.Besuretosafelyroutethecontrolwirestopreventdamageduringinstallation.BecarefulnottocrossthewireswhenconnectingtheQuestdehumidifierandtheremotecontrolpanelordamagetothetransformermayresult.

2.RuntheYellowwirefromtheA/CunittotheCOMterminalontheQuestDEH3000R.

Energize the A/C central fan during dehumidificationToautomaticallyruntheA/CFANwhenthedehumidifierruns.1.AttachasecondGreenwiretotheGreenfanwire

terminalonthethermostat.2.ConnectthenewGreenwiretotheCOMterminalonthe

QuestDEH3000R.3.RunawirefromtheRedterminalonthethermostatto

theNO(NormallyOpen)terminalontheQuestDEH3000R.

2.7 Dehumidifier lock-OFF or lock-ON:A/C sensor featureToautomaticallyactivateordeactivatethedehumidifierwhentheairconditionerruns.

Activate dehumidification when the air-conditioner is running.A voltmeter is required for the next steps to ensure the correct wiring from the A/C transformer is used to set up the Lock-in dehumidifier function.

1.ThecommonwirefromtheexistingA/Ctransformer(usuallyBlack)mustbeattachedtothe“COM”sensorterminalbetween“ON-D”and“OFF-D”ontheDEH3000R.

TIP: The common wire can be identified as the wire from the A/C transformer that reads 0 volts between it and the Yellow air conditioning call for cooling wire.The incorrect wire will give a 20 to 28 volt reading.

2.AnotherYellowwiremustbeaddedtothethermostatYellowterminalandruntothe“ON-D” sensorterminalontheQuestDEH3000R.

Deactivate dehumidification when the air-conditioner is running.AvoltmeterisrequiredforthenextstepstoensurethecorrectwiringfromtheA/CtransformerisusedtosetuptheLock-outdehumidifierfunction.

1. ThecommonwirefromtheexistingA/Ctransformer(usuallyBlack)mustbeattachedtothe“COM”sensorterminalbetween“ON-D”and“OFF-D”ontheDEH3000R.

TIP: The common wire can be identified as the wire from the A/C transformer that reads 0 volts between it and the Yellow air conditioning call for cooling wire. The incorrect wire will give a 20 to 28 volt reading.

2.AnotherYellowwiremustbeaddedtothethermostatYellowterminalandruntothe“OFF-D”sensorterminalontheDEH3000R.

2.8 TestingVerifythewiringconnections.

Aftercheckingthewiring,thisshorttestwillconfirmproperhook-up.

1. InstallfrontcoveroftheQuestDEH3000R;connectthetopfirst,thenthebottom.2.PlugintheQUESTdehumidifier.TheQuestDEH3000Rshouldpowerup.3.TurntheQuestDEH3000RONbypressingthe“ON/OFF”button.4.VerifydehumidificationoperationbyadjustingtheRH“SETPOINT”tobelowthe“%RH”

readingonthedisplay.Usethedown“RH”button.ConfirmQuestfanandcompressoroperation.BothshouldbeONnow.

IncreasetheRH“SETPOINT”onthedisplaytowellabovethe“%RH”readingonthedisplay.Pressthe“RH”uparrowtoincreasetheRH“SETPOINT”.

AfterrunningthedehumidifiercompressortheQuestDEH3000Rappliesa10minuterestartlockoutonallfunctions.Youwillhavetowaitfortherestartlockouttoexpire.

5.VerifyFAN-onlyoperation:a.Checkthe“VENT”modeonthedisplay,itwilleitherbe“CLOSED”or“OPEN”.Ifitis“CLOSED”gotothenextstep.Ifitis“OPEN”,pressandholdthe“VENT”keyuntil“OPEN”flashesonthedisplay,releasethekeyandthenpressitonemoretime.“OPEN”willchangeto“CLOSED”.Don’ttouchthekeysforseveralsecondsuntilitstopsflashing.

b.Pressandholdthe“FAN”buttonuntil“AUTO”beginsflashingonthedisplay,releaseit,andthenpressitagaintoswitchthefantothe“ON”setting.

c.ConfirmthattheQUESTfanisON.QuestcompressormustbeOFF.Ventilationdamper(ifused)shouldbeCLOSED.

6.VerifyoptionalVENToperation(ifelectricdamperisinstalled):a.Pressandholdthe“FAN”buttonuntil“ON”flashesonthedisplay.

b.Releasethe“FAN”button,thenpressitagaintoswitchfanoperationto“AUTO”.

Troubleshooting:Ifanyfunctionsarenotworkingproperly,checkthewiringandconnections.Avoltmetermaybeusedacrossterminalstoverifyvoltage.Ifthereisconcernaboutthedehumidifiernotoperatingproperly,theleadsexitingtheQUESTdehumidifiermaybeconnectedaccordingtothefollowingchart:

Waitmodeisafactory-programmedtimeperiodmeanttopreventshortcycles.Thisextendsthelifeofthedehumidifier.Whenaflashing“O”isencountered,theunitisinwaitmodeandIT COULD BE UP TO 10 MINUTES BEFORE OPERATION RESUMES.

3.1 Display•Wheneverthereispowertothecontrol,itwilldisplaythetime,theday,%relativehumidity,andtemperature.

•WhenthecontrolisactuallyswitchedON,the%RHsetpoint,fanstatus,runmode(programorhold),andfreshairventilationstatusisdisplayed.

•Whenakeyispressedthedisplaywilllightforapproximately½aminute.

•TheTimeandDayisdisplayedatthetopofthescreen.

3.2 SettingDuringtheset-upprocess,ifyoumakeamistake,simplycontinue.Youcanalwaysgobacktoadjustthesettings.Ifyouleavethecontrolaloneanddon’ttouchanybuttonsfor10seconds,thecontrolwillrememberanychangesmadeandreturntothenormaldisplayscreen,allowingyoutoproceedtothenextstep.

3.6 Adjusting the relative humidity “SETPOINT” TheQuestDEH3000Rsensestheambientrelativehumidity(%RH)ofthespaceinwhichitislocated,itcomesfactorypresettohold50%relativehumidity.

Therelativehumidity“SETPOINT”(desiredRHtobemaintained)operatesthedehumidifierfunctionoftheQuestdehumidifier.IthasnoeffectontheoptionalVENT(freshairventilation)orFAN(airrecirculation)functionsiftheyarebeingused.

OperationThestandardrangethatthedehumidifierholdsaroundyour“SETPOINT”is3%.Withasetpointof50%,thedehumidifierwillrununtiltherelativehumidityreaches47%.Thedehumidifierwillthenswitchoffuntiltherelativehumidityreaches53%.

Ifthesetpointishigherthantheambientrelativehumidity,thespacedoesnotneedtobedehumidifiedsothedehumidifierwillnotrun.

Example:Setpoint:50%RH

Currentcondition:45%RH–Thedehumidifierwillbeoff(no“O”indicatorwillbedisplayed).

Ifyoursetpointisbelowtheambientcondition,thedehumidifierwillbeonand“O”willdisplay.

Example:Setpoint:50%RH

Currentcondition:55%RH–Thedehumidifierwillbeon(“O”displayed).

3.7 Fan Setting and OperationUsethe“FAN”buttontochangethefanoperation.Thereare2choicesforfanoperation:“ON”or“AUTO”.Thefactorypresetis“AUTO”.

“ON”–ThefanintheQuestdehumidifierwillruncontinuously.Thisdoesnotaffecteitherthedehumidificationorventilationfunctionsofthesystem.Thesystemmayormaynotbeventilatingordehumidifyingwhilethefanisrunning.Thissettingiscommonlyusedformaximumairfiltrationand/orairrecirculation.

“AUTO”–IndicatesthefanwillrunwhentheQuestDEH3000Rcallsfordehumidificationorventilation.Ifthecontrolhasnotcalledfordehumidificationfor3hours,thecontrolwillautomaticallyrunthedehumidifierfanfor10minutes.

Afteradehumidificationcycle,thefanautomaticallyshutsofffor10minutes.Thispauseallowsthewatertodrainfromthedehumidifier.

Asolid“O”indicatesthefanisoperating.Aflashing“O”indicatesthefanisinawaitmode.No“O”indicatesthefanisOFF.

Tosettheoperation:1.Pressandholdthe“FAN”button.Thecurrentfansettingwillbegintoflashonthedisplay.Releasethebutton.

2.Pressthe“FAN”buttontotogglebetweenthe“ON”and“AUTO”modes.

Withthefaninthe“AUTO”mode,thefanwilloperateonlywhenneededbyotherfunctionsofthesystem.ThefanwillremainOFFunlessthesystemisdehumidifyingorventilating.Thefanalwaysrunsduringdehumidificationandventilationandthefan“O”iconwillbelit.TocompletelyturnthesystemOFF,usethe“ON/OFF”buttonasdescribedearlier.

3.8 Damper Operation and Ventilation, Manual (Hold) ModeThe“VENT”settingcontrolstheventilationfunctionofthesystem.Ithasnocontroloverthedehumidificationfunction.Inordertoprovideventilation,themotorizeddampermustbeopenandthefanmustberunning.Thecontrollertakescareofthesetwofunctionsautomaticallysothatwheneverthedamperisopen,thefanisrunning.

Theventilationindicator“O”willbedisplayedwhenevertheunitisventilating.Thefanoperationindicator“O”willalsobelit.

Therearethreedamperoperationmodes:1.“OPEN”–holdmode:Thedamperwillbeopenandthedehumidifierfanwillbecontinuouslyoperatingtointroducefreshairintothespace.Usethismodeforcontinuousfreshairventilation.Thefanisalwaysonwhenthedamperisopen.

2.“CLOSED”–holdmode:Thedamperwillneveropen,andthedehumidifierwillnotventilate.Thefanwillstilloperatenormallyforrecirculationanddehumidification.

3.“PROGRAMMED”mode:TheQuestDEH3000Rwilloperatethemotorizeddamperandthedehumidifierfanaccordingtotheprogrammedventilationschedule(Section3.9).

Thefactorypresetforthe“VENT”settingis“CLOSED”.

Toset“OPEN”–holdor“CLOSED”–holdventilationoperation:1.Pressthe“VENT”button.Thecurrentsettingwillbegintoflashonthedisplay.Releasethebutton.

2.Pressthe“VENT”buttonagaintoswitchbetween“OPEN”and“CLOSED”.

3.Leavethecontrolalonefor10secondsandyoursettingswillbesaved.

Damper Operation and Ventilation, Programmed VentilationThisexampleshowsthesysteminprogrammode(denotedbytheschedule15minuteson,5minutesoffandthewordRUNinthelowerrightcornerofthedisplay).

TheQuestDEH3000Rwilloperatefreshairventilationaccordingtoyourventilationprogram.ThecontrolneedstobeprogrammedtoturntheventilationfunctionONandOFFatthedesiredintervals.Thisisdonebyprogrammingtheventilationtimer.

Therearetwoprogramsavailableforventilation:1.MondaythroughSunday

2.MondaythroughFriday&Saturday/Sunday

Eachblockofdayshasamorningscheduleandanightschedule.Morningisthefirst12hoursofthedayandnightisthesecond12hours.

Eachschedulehas:

•A“START”timewhentheventilationschedulebegins,

•An“OPEN FOR”durationfortheamountoftimethedamperstaysopenin5minuteintervals,from0to60,

•And“CLOSED FOR”durationwhichclosesthedamperforaspecifiedtimein5minuteintervalsfrom0to60.

Setting the Ventilation Program:

1.Pressthe“PROGRAM ENTER”buttonuntilthefollowingmenuappears:

2.Usingtheup/down“RH”buttons,highlight“PROGRAM”andselectitbypressingthe“PROGRAM ENTER”button.Thefollowingmenuappears:

Youcanselectfrom:“MON-FRI”“SAT-SUN”forseparateweekdayandweekendschedules,or“MON-SUN”whichgivesyouequalweekdayandweekendschedules.

3.UsingtheUp/Down“RH”buttons,highlightandthenselectoneofthetwochoices.Theexamplegivenshowshowtoprogramseparateweekdayandweekendschedules.Thesamemethodisusedifyouchoosetheotherprogram.

Example:menuwhenyouselect“MON-FRI”“SAT-SUN”:

1.Enterthestartingtimeforweekdaysusingtheup/down“RH”buttonstochangethetime.

FIRST YEAR WARRANTY: Therma-StorLLCwarrantsthat,forone(1)yeartheQuestDEH3000RDehumidifier&VentilationSystemControllerwilloperatefreefromanydefects inmaterialsandworkmanship,orTherma-StorLLCwill,atitsoption,repairorreplacethedefectivepart(s),freeofanycharge.

END-USER RESPONSIBILITIES:WarrantyservicemustbeperformedbyaServicerauthorizedbyTherma-StorLLC.Iftheend-userisunabletolocateorobtainwarrantyservicefromanauthorizedServicer,heshouldcallTherma-StorLLC at theabovenumberandask for theTherma-StorLLCServiceDepartment,whichwillthenarrangeforcoveredwarrantyservice.Warrantyservicewillbeperformedduringnormalworkinghours.
