› Quality of working life is the degree to which member of a

work organization are able to satisfy their personal needs

through their experience in the organization.

› QWL = Physical factors(work conditions) + economic

factors + psychological factors , which affect their job.

› Fair and reasonable pay–Employees must be paid there due share in the progress

and prosperity of the firm.

› Favorable and safer environment–Provision of work environment free from various hazards

arising out of natural and unnatural things.

› Employment benefits–Workers want share in the profit in the organization

addition to medical, housing and welfare facilities.

– Employees don’t want to be a victim of employer’s whimsical

policies .

– Layoffs and retrenchments are opposed tooth and nail by categories

of employees.

› Job satisfaction

– Workers want to work where there talents are utilized.

– The management should redesign the job in such a manner that

workers feel satisfied.

› Scope of better career opportunity

– Pay prospects + improvement in technical and academic skills .

– The management should always think of utilizing the exiting the

human resource for expansion and development.

› Suggestion system

– Suggestion system satisfies psychological needs of the employees.

– Use of cash awards or publish worker’s name with photograph inmagazine for successful suggestions.

– This motivates the employees to be in search to add something toorganization.

› Autonomous Workgroups

– Each group of workers is given freedom of decision-making onproduction methods, distribution of tasks, work schedules and so on.

› Job enrichment

– Provide a person with exiting, interesting , stimulating work.

– This improves quality of jobs.

– Motivates the employees with higher level needs.

– If employees are provided opportunities for advancement and growthand to develop their personality , they will be highly motivated andcommitment to organization also increases.

› Flexibility in work schedules

– Flexible time: flexible working hours

– Staggered hours : Different group of workers begin and end work atdifferent intervals.

– Compressed work-week : More no. of hours per hour for fewer daysof week.

› Employees’ Participation

– People in organization have a need for participation in matteraffecting their lives.

– Participation in form of suggestion system, Management by objective.
