Q4) How did you use media technologies in the construction,

research, planning and evaluation stages?

Surveymonkey • I used survey monkey to conduct audience research to find out what

my target audience liked and didn’t like about my work. This lead to my work being better aimed for my audience but also a better quality as I only went with the most popular answers with my final construction. I used survey monkey as it was easy to use and free, this meant it allowed me the design a better and more in depth questionnaire. As it is online, it also means that it is easier to get people to answer the questions because I wont need to print out 11 different copies I just need to send them a link.

YouTube • I also used YouTube in my research, by using YouTube I could analyse similar

genre music videos to my own. Which meant that I could then visibly see the generic conventions of electronic videos which helped me make my own one; I can also see similar videos and artists to make this process easier. YouTube is the best place to do this as it has the biggest collection of videos on the web which means that that there is more chance of me finding the type of videos that I want. I also used youtube to upload my final edit, I used it as it means my video could then be seen on any platform, and as my target audience is teenage males they are more likely going to be on their phones, which means that the video is more assessable for them.

Blogger• Overall I used blogger to present my coursework. I used blogger

because it would allow any link from other sites to be posted, and also any videos or pictures can be used in my work. Blogger can also be used on any computer, or downloaded as an app on a portable device which also meant I could do my work anywhere.

Camera • In my planning I used my iPad camera to take test shots of my chosen settings.

This allowed me to test the lighting and to make the shots look how I want it to for when I film my final construction. In used my iPad camera as this processed a higher quality image and I also could upload the photos quicker and easier to my blog. In my final edit I used a camera to film my work, this year I spent a lot more time focusing on the type of shot that will bring most effect to the scene, for example I used more close up shots which means that the audience will be able to clearly see the emotion of the characters at any given time.

Computer and printer

• I used a computer and printer to make and print a storyboard to plan my final edit. By using a storyboard I could plan what I wanted to do, and also make the filming and editing stage easier as I knew what every shot would be before I film it. I also used a computer to make my digipak and magazine advert, using paint I could add the colour effects I wanted and move text over the top of the photo to give it some meaning. I used paint as it was already installed onto my computer and I had previous experience using it so I knew what to do.

Windows movie maker • I used this to edit my final edit together. It allowed me to add special effects to

the clips I wanted, and obviously allowed the MP3 file to be edited along side my clips. For example I was able to change the clips I wanted into black and white to add extra emotion to the shot, and it also allowed me to slow down any shots I needed to, giving the specific shot more screen time showing the importance of it. I was limited by the editing software I could use, but with window movie maker being free and easy to use, and more importantly already installed onto my computer meant that it was the best choice to use to make my edit.

Slideshare + Prezzi• For my evaluation I used presentation sites Slideshare and Prezzi. This

was because these sites allowed me to add text and pictures in a seamless blend. As well as this I could easily link the presentation to my blog, so all four questions can be accessed easily. Prezzi and Slideshare are both easy to use and to navigate around for the audience, meaning this was an obvious choice to use.
