So long as it is a long-term project that involves multiple disciplines and results in a product that is shared with an audience outside of Morrill.

What can we create?

Teen fashion bloggers: There are lots of them! (see: Tavi Genison)

All-Girl Theater Company: The teen girl theater troupe uses the power of theater to make change through projects like their play, "Slut." They've taken their work around the globe and designed a workshop for sexually exploited youth. 

Teen Feminist: The young feminist has been vocal about the potential of teens to change the world in the Internet age. She started the blog Teen Feminist, where she writes about a wide range of feminist issues.

Smartphone App: The teen made waves in 2014 for his invention of the game-changing smartphone app,Steth IO, that turns your phone into a stethoscope and heart rate monitor. 

Internet Boy Wonder: The Internet boy wonder turned a $1,000 check from his grandma into a $100,000 fortune by investing in Bitcoin back in 2012. He used the profits to fund his career as an entrepreneur and started Botangle, an online video tutoring service. Erik dropped out of high school and is now hard at work expanding his empire.

Malcolm London: an internationally recognized Chicago poet, activist & educator.

PlayMaker School: The students at the PlayMaker school don’t just play games — they design, code and market their own video games as part of a class project. The school is designed around all types of game play, including high-tech, low-tech and no-tech.

 

FUBU: started selling wool hats they sewed their logo on for $10, earning $800 their first week. They are now worth $250 million dollars and own FB Legacy.

• Create a goal by asking yourself what ‘product’ do you want to create?

• Who is your audience? (thing big!)

• Create a timeline for your project.

• Determine the materials you need to acquire and the skills you need to learn.

• Form a team of 3-5 classmates.

You most likely won’t succeed. All great success stories have been the result of collaboration.
