Promotional

• Music videos are promoted through MTV channels and any other music channel in general.

• Promoting through Youtube is also a viable way of artists/bands promoting themselves as music is used a lot in social media.

• The video behind the music is used mostly just to market the music and attract the correct audience.

• The first ever music video to be aired was ‘Video killed the radio star’ by The Buggles in 1981 which was very successful, another one right after that was ‘You Better Run’ by Pat Benatar. These were both promoted very successfully.

Extension Of Income

• If someone has a lot of money to spend on a music video and is somewhat wealthy then they can make it very successful by using very expensive editing programs e.g. Sony Vegas and get it through to people through advertising e.g. Thriller made over 500M in sales.

• This also gives the company more income because it helps to boost the sales of products related to the singer.

• Companies wouldn’t make music videos for free as they invest a ton of money into the editing, cameras and so on so they will try their best to promote it so they can get enough income.

• Thriller was the most profitable music video in history however it upped the standards for everyone else so now there is a lot more competition in the music production market.

• There is now a lot more investment into music videos because of what was achieved by Michael Jackson everyone aspires to be just as successful as he was.

Extension Of Outlets

• A company can expand widely by producing music videos, they are easy to access therefore creating a lot of publicity especially on social networking sites like Facebook where you can like and share.

• This could also lead to a more successful career by having really good editing skills and then possibly working on films instead from the skills employees have witnessed from the music video.

• Spike Jonze is a perfect example as he has once been from making commercials to music videos and finally to helping produce films.

• Jonze has also done work before with several music video producers; one of them being Fatboy Slim

Synergy

• Synergy is where two products or companies create something that will succeed with skills from both.

• It can be used to promote films and other types of media that go on. This can also increase amount of sales, publicity and help companies expand.

• Synergy helps the audience to like something a bit more e.g. certain films and sequels are so successful because they relate the music to the video in the film industry.

• Disney is known to use synergy, a good example of this is High school musical which became really successful and a second was made.

• Synergy helps films like this promote themselves because someone may be into music videos but not into films and that can change someone's perspective on films.

Producers’ strategies

• Before creating the music video producers will figure out how they will market it and what target audience they want to aim it at.

• The producer will fund towards the making and planning on the music video and if it will become successful or not.

• It is important that the music video isn’t all of the producers ideas as you need variety instead of it being one persons idea.

• One example of a very good producer is Paul Epworth who has worked with Adele, Plan B, Florence and the Machine. Epworth also won an award for being such a successful producer.

• Producers like this are so in demand because of their skills in the media e.g. planning and other roles done by the producer.

• Producers like Epworth are the reasons why Adele and other artists like Plan B are now so well known.
